Books 1 and 2 - Marquise of the Angels
Angelika i jej mąż, hrabia de Peyrac, prowadzą bardzo wystawne życie. Królowi nie podoba się, że jego podwładnego stać na taki zbytek. Hrabia de Peyrac zostaje oskarżony o herezję, aresztowany, a cały jego majątek skonfiskowany. Angelika, która z maleńkim synkiem zostaje bez środków do życia, postanawia rozpocząć walkę o oczyszczenie z zarzutów i uwolnienie męża.
Angélique and her husband, Count Peyrac lead a very prominent and lavish lifestyle. The King does not approve of a subject enjoying a better lifestyle than his own. Count Peyrac is accused of heresy, arrested and his entire fortune confiscated by the crown. Angélique, with her small son, with no means of supporting herself and left to face penury vows to wrest back their good name and gain her husbands' freedom.
Books 3 and 4 - Road to Versailles

Angélique, convinced of her husbands' innocence took all possible steps to prove the accusations against him were false. Unfortunately she did not succeed and Count Peyrac was condemned to being burnt publicly at the stake. In her despair Angélique entrusted the care of her children to her sister, whilst she sought to hide herself in the poorest region of Paris. There she chanced upon her childhood friend, Nicholas. Although she had found safe harbour here, Angélique had no intention of remaining amongst the beggars, cheats and thieves. Her one ambition was to dig herself out of the despair and poverty-stricken word she found herself inhabiting.
Books 5 and 6 - King

Angélique, who by now had carved out a way into Versailles for herself, did not realise that marriage to her cousin Phillipe du Plessis-Belliere would create such an intense battle for survival. Her husband, who felt that he had been trapped into the marriage did not want to formerly introduce Angélique to the court as his wife. Using all her feminine charms and wiles, Angélique catches the Kings' eye and gains his support.
Angelika, która zrozpaczona po śmierci syna i męża zamieszkała w swej posiadłości Plessis, zachęcona przez przyjaciół postanowiła wrócić do Paryża. Wciąż przychylny dla markizy Ludwik XIV zaszczycił ją królewskim przywilejem zasiadania w jego obecności. Angelika czuła, że znowu nadchodzi w Wersalu jej czas, że jest po królowej i metresie króla jedną z najważniejszych kobiet na francuskim dworze. Zawdzięczała to nie tylko swojej urodzie i wdziękowi, ale także mądrości i sztuce dyplomacji.
Angélique, mourning the death of her husband, Phillipe, and son retreats to her property in Plessis but is persuaded by the support of her friends to return to Paris. Still infatuated with her, Louis XIV had conferred great honours upon her person in her absence. Angélique, felt that her star was rising and that after the Queen and the Maîtresse en titre she had become one of the most important women in the French court. This wasn't wholly due to her looks and vivacity but also her intelligence and understanding of diplomacy.
Books 7 and 8 - Sultan
Intrygi, zdrady, walka o wpływy i podłość wielu bywalców Wersalu skłoniły Angelikę do porzucenia światowego stylu życia. Na rozkaz króla nie wolno jej jednak było opuścić Paryża. Krzyżowało to plany pięknej markizy, która po otrzymaniu wiadomości, że jej ukochany mąż hrabia Joffrey de Peyrac nie został spalony na stosie, postanowiła rozpocząć poszukiwania. Nadzieja, że Joffrey żyje, dodawała jej sił do walki.
The intrigues, betrayals, battles for supremacy and pure evil of the inhabitants of Versailles impacted so heavily on Angélique that she wanted nothing but to escape its clutches. By order of the King, however, she was not permitted to leave Paris. This did not fit into the plans of the beautiful marquise who had by now discovered that her beloved husband Count Joffrey de Peyrac had not been burnt on the pyre and was determined to start searching for him. The hope that Joffrey still lived gave her additional impetus and strength to fight for him.
Angelika i jej przyjaciel, mistrz Savary, podczas podróży do Afryki niejednokrotnie stawali oko w oko ze śmiercią. W świecie islamu Angelika znalazła się w prawdziwym niebezpieczeństwie. Ani spryt, ani pieniądze tym razem nie pomogły pięknej markizie. Została pojmana i sprzedana. Na domiar złego zachwiała się też jej wiara, że Joffrey de Peyrac żyje.
During their travels on the North African continent Angélique and her great friend, Savary, often walked hand in hand with death. In the world of Islam Angélique faced tangible danger. Neither money nor her quick wits had any impact on helping the beautiful marquise and she found herself captured and sold on the slave market. During this time she also experienced a wavering in her belief that Joffrey de Peyrac had survived and was alive.
Books 9 and 10 - Revolt
Pobyt Angeliki w świecie islamu sprawił, że po powrocie do Francji na wiele rzeczy patrzyła inaczej. Życie dworskie, intrygi, zazdrość i walka o wpływy stały się dla niej odrażające. Król, który nadal zabiegał o względy i miłość Angeliki, postanowił zmusić ją do pokory i uległości. Osadzona w swoim zamku w prowincji Poitou i pilnowana przez królewskiego wysłannika zdołała jednak włączyć się w spory między katolikami i hugenotami, którzy w Poitou zjednoczyli się we wspólnej walce przeciw królowi.
Following her experiences in the world of Islam, on her return to France Angélique found herself viewing her life there very differently. Life at Court, the intrigues, jealousies and fights for supremacy became an anathema to her. The King, still carrying a torch for Angélique, finding himself spurned once again, tried to force her into submission, both as her liege lord and as his mistress. He banishes her to her lands in Poitou and places a garrison to guard her and prevent any further escapades until she agreed to submit to his will. Before long she had rallied the Catholics and the Huguenots who were prepared to stand against the King.
Angelika na wiele miesięcy wraz z córką schroniła sie przed żołnierzami ścigającymi ją na rozkaz króla w opactwie Nieul. Przyszedł jednak czas, kiedy musiała sama zatroszczyć się o swój los. Po długiej podróży dotarła do wybrzeży Zatoki Biskajskiej. Tam, podając się za kobietę niskiego stanu, pracowała jako służąca. Przeszłość jednak powróciła i Angelika znowu wyruszyła w poszukiwaniu miejsca, gdzie czułaby się bezpieczna.
Angélique and her daughter fled Plessis and found shelter in Nieul in a monastery where she had to re-evaluate her current position which she realised was endangering many others. She made her way to La Rochelle and merged into the community as a woman of low birth. However, as her past threatened to catch up with her, Angélique once again had to make decision for the safety of herself and her baby daughter.
Books 11 and 12 - In Love
Grupa hugenotów prowadzona przez Angelikę, uciekając przed katolikami z rodzinnego La Rochelle, schroniła się na pirackim statku dowodzonym przez Rescatora. Celem ich podróży był Nowy Świat, gdzie zamierzali rozpocząć nowe życie. Rescator, który przed laty kupił Angelikę na targu niewolników, teraz odzyskał swoją własność. Nie traktował jej jednak jak niewolnicy. Była dla niego wyjątkowa i jedyna, a jednocześnie w jego zachowaniu Angelika wyczuwała wrogość. Nie potrafiła wytłumaczyć sobie przyczyny tak dziwnego zachowania.
A group of Huguenots led by Angélique and escaping from the Catholic troops stationed in La Rochelle found shelter on a pirate ship whose chieftain was Rescator. Their intention had been to escape to the New World to start a new life there. Rescator, who had purchased Angélique at the slave markets of Candia now claimed her as his possession. However, he did not treat her like a prisoner. He placed her on a pedestal as his one and only and yet Angélique felt hostility and enmity emanating from him and could not comprehend such extreme behaviour.

Rescator, who had a great understanding of the life and conditions in the New World did not rate the survival rate of his unexpected passengers very highly. However, he did have a plan in mind that would benefit all of them. Regrettably, his suggestions were met with great suspicion and hostility amongst the hardiest of his unwilling passengers who believed they would be enslaved on arrival in the New World and all their hopes and dreams shattered. This led to the inevitable revolt led by the passengers which Angélique was unable to prevent.
Books 13 and 14 - Countess / Nouveau Monde
Grupa kolonizatorów pod przywództwem hrabiego de Peyrac postanowiła odbyć daleką i niebezpieczną podróż, aby osiedlić się w położonym w Appalachach forcie Katarunk. Ich szlak wiódł przez wyludnione tereny nawiedzane jedynie przez Indian i francuskich żołnierzy. Zarówno jedni, jak i drudzy mogli okazać się wielkim zagrożeniem dla wędrującej grupy. Dzięki Joffreyowi de Peyrac udało się osiągnąć cel podróży, ale był to dopiero początek walki o bezpieczeństwo i godziwe warunki życia kolonizatorów.
Under the leadership of Count Peyrac a group of colonists took the decision to embark on the long and dangerous road to his fortress in Katarunk in the Appalachians to settle into their new lives. Their journey took them into terrain which until that time had only ever been seen by the local Native American Indians and French soldiers. Either faction could prove dangerous to the the new arrivals. Thanks to Joffrey de Peyracs personal knowledge of the terrain they reached their destination safely enough but this was just the beginning of their struggle to survive.
Hrabia de Peyrac po zniszczeniu fortu Katarunk zabrał ludzi wysoko w góry do swojej kryjówki. Wśród uchodźców byli zarówno zbiegli galernicy, jak i purytańscy protestanci. Pomimo różnic obyczajowych i religijnych grupa ta potrafiła stworzyć przyjazną i sprawnie działającą społeczność. Niemałą w tym rolę odegrała Angelika, która odkrywała w sobie coraz to nowe talenty i możliwości. Osadników czekały zmagania z ostrą zimą, a także nieprzewidziane wizyty, które przyniosły kłopoty, ale i zapowiedź wielkich zmian.
Following the ambush and destruction of the Katarunk fortress Count Peyrac led his people high into the mountains to the safely of his mines. Despite their many and varied religious beliefs and lifestyles, this motley crew managed to create a strong community to facilitate their latest battle for survival. Angélique herself played no small part in this new and enlightened society finding hidden talents and strengths within herself which she brought to the table. The settlers faced a bitter winter, unexpected visitations which bought their own problems and which heralded great changes.
Books 15 and 16 - Temptation
Z nadejściem wiosny Angelika i hrabia de Payrac z grupą hugenotów wyruszyli w dół rzeki Kennebec. Ich celem było Gouldsboro. Wojna między Anglią i Francją o wpływy w Nowym Świecie prowadzona przy udziale zaślepionych i bezwzględnych duchownych spowodowała, że największym zagrożeniem dla podróżnych stał się ojciec d'Orgeval i sprzyjający mu nawróceni Indianie. Misterna intryga duchownego doprowadziła do tego, że hrabia ponownie utracił swoją ukochaną żonę. Oboje nie zdawali sobie sprawy, że są marionetkami w rękach wroga.
As spring approaches Angélique and Count Peyrac together with a group of Huguenots travelled to the mouth of the river Kennebec. Their target was to reach Gouldsboro. The religious war between England and France in the New World had escalated to such a degree that they now found themselves in grave danger from Sebastian d'Orgeval, the Jesuit and the native American Indians he had converted to Catholicism. The circumstances caused by this religious fervour led to another separation of the Count and his beloved wife. Neither guessed that they had become puppets in the hands of their bitterest enemy.
Angelika, która mylnie sądziła, że działa zgodnie z poleceniem męża, znalazł się w wielkim niebezpieczeństwie. Nawet spryt, waleczność i determinacja nie pomogły jej uwolnić się z zastawionej przez ojca d'Orgevala pułapki. Została zakładniczką pirata zwanego Złota Brodą. Okazało się jednak, że jeżeli ma się czegokolwiek obawiać ze strony groźnego kapitana statku, to tylko nadmiaru uczucia. I właśnie miłość Złotej Brody oddaliła ją od ukochanego męża.
Under the impression that she was acting with her husbands' support Angélique found herself in great personal danger. She was unable to utilise any of her personal strengths, knowledge or aptitudes to prevent herself catapulting headfirst into the trap set by Father d'Orgeval. She became the captive of the Pirate known as 'Gold Beard.' As it happens, the only thing that Angélique needed to fear from her captor would be an overwhelming outpouring of emotion. And it was this very affection from Gold Beard that would serve to further distance her from her beloved husband.
Books 17, 18 and 19 - Demon
Angelice i hrabiemu de Peyrac nie jest pisane życie stabilne i spokojne. Oboje lubią wyzwania i przygody, ale ich miłość trwa niezmiennie. Muszą ufać sobie i wierzyć w siebie, żeby przetrwać niespodzianki, który szykuje im los. Tym razem na drodze ich szczęścia staje zdeterminowana kobieta, księżna de Maudribourg. Kim jest naprawdę i do jakich czynów jest zdolna, żeby zrealizować swoje plany i rozdzielić kochanków?
It was not written that life for Angélique and Count Peyrac would be peaceful and stable. Both enjoyed a good adventure and were able to endure separations caused by them in the knowledge that their love was strong and true. They had learned to have faith in and to trust in each others actions to overcome the unforeseen surprises that fate would throw their way. This time the obstacle which would attempt to destroy their love was a very determined woman, the Duchess de Maudribourg. Who is she really, what is she capable of and how far would she go to realise her plan to divide and conquer the lovers?
Angelika w towarzystwie księżnej de Maudribourg i swojego syna, Kantora, udała się do Portu Królewskiego z nadzieją, że spotka tam hrabiego de Peyrac, powracającego z wyprawy w głąb Zatoki Francuskiej. Na miejscu hrabina odkryła prawdziwą naturę księżnej, która do tej pory w jej oczach uchodziła za wcielenie wszelkich cnót. Kantor wyznał, że to istna kobieta demon, która deprawowała wszystkich mężczyzn. Krążące niebezpieczeństwo wokół rodziny hrabiego nie było złudzeniem. Angelika musiała jak najprędzej pozbyć się Ambroisine de Maudribourg.
Angélique, in the company of her son Cantor and the Duchess de Maudribourg made their way to Port Royale in the hope that they would meet up with Count Peyrac who, they believed, would be returning from the deep interior of the French territories. On arrival at their destination the Duchess showed her true nature catching Angélique completely by surprise and she had, until that time believed the Duchess to be pure and noble. Cantor revealed to his mother the base nature of the Duchess who had seduced the majority of the male settlers in her depraved quest.
Angelika niezwłocznie wyruszyła do portu Tidmagouche, gdy tylko dowiedziała się, że widziano tam hrabiego de Peyraca. Na miejscu, zgodnie z przypuszczeniami, zastała bezwzględną księżną de Maudribourg. Niestety hrabinie nie było jeszcze dane zobaczyć męża, który opuścił port w przeddzień jej przybycia. W zatoce Angelika poszukiwała sojuszników w walce z Kobietą Demonem. Tymczasem w okolicy dochodziło do tajemniczych morderstw. Hrabina żyła nadzieją. Każdy następny dzień przybliżał powrót hrabiego de Peyraca.
Unhesitatingly Angélique made her way to Tidmagouche as soon as she heard that Count Peyrac was making for port there. On arriving at her destination she was not surprised to find the Duchess de Maudribourg already in situ. Unfortunately for the Duchess, she had been unable to put her plan of ensnaring Count Peyrac into action as he had left the port town the day before her arrival. In the meantime Angélique summoned all her strength and started to recruit her followers to wage battle against the Demon in the form of a woman. In the meantime the populace was beginning to hear about mysterious deaths in the vicinity. The Countess continued to live in hope in the sure knowledge that every day brought the arrival of Count Peyrac that bit closer.
Book 20 - Ghosts
Podczas podróży do Quebecu jedynym miejscem, gdzie Angelika mogła czuć się bezpiecznie, był pokład statku "Gouldsboro". Jej skazany na śmierć małżonek i ona sama - potępiona, z wyznaczoną za jej głowę nagrodą - zapuszczali się w głąb Nowej Francji, gdzie od dawna uchodzili za banitów. Wraz z towarzyszącą im flotyllą zatrzymali się w osadzie handlowej Tadoussac. Już dawno dotarła tam sława Angeliki, mówiono o jej umiejętnościach w uzdrawianiu chorych i nieprzeciętnym władaniu bronią.
During the journey to Quebec, the only place in which Angélique felt truly safe was aboard the "Gouldsboro". There, together with her condemned husband and the bounty on herself their perils seemed as far away as the deep interior of New France which was their next destination. Together with their small flotilla escort they stopped off at the Tadoussac Trading Post. Her fame had already preceded her person, rumour was rife about her beauty, her miraculous healing abilities and her keen shooting eye.
Books 21, 22 and 23 - Quebec
Angelika znalazła się w Quebecu. Po tak długiej tułaczce stolica francuskiej kolonii wydała jej się najcudowniejszą przystanią. Hrabina mogła w końcu cieszyć się miejskimi domami, kościołami, ogrodami i sklepikami. Po raz pierwszy od bardzo długiego czasu wraz z Joffreyem de Peyrac i dziećmi zamieszkali w luksusowych warunkach. Przyjął ich markiz de Ville d'Avraya. Tymczasem Sabina de Castel-Morgeat ukrywała się w jednym z apartamentów zamku Świętego Ludwika, przeklinając nowych mieszkańców miasta.
Angélique found herself in Quebec. After so long in the wilderness the capital of the French colony seemed to her to be the most beautiful place on earth. The Countess, could at last, delight in the townhouses, churches, gardens and boutiques which abounded. For the first time in a long while, together with Joffrey de Peyrac and their children they were able to house themselves in luxury. Their host was the Marquis de Ville d'Avray. Meanwhile, in the confines of the Palace of St. Louis, Sabine de Castel-Morgeat cursed the new arrivals.
Angelika była drugą kobietą, obok pani de Mercouville, z której zdaniem liczono się w Quebecu. Odetchnęła z ulgą, gdy dowiedziała się, że ojciec de Maubeuge jest przyjacielem Joffreya i wysłał d'Orgevala na misję do Irokezów. Po Nowym Roku w mieście rozpoczęły się przygotowania do wielkiego balu, który miał się odbyć następnego dnia po święcie Trzech Króli. Gorączka ogarnęła wszystkich zaproszonych gości. Hrabina przeczuwała, że tego dnia wydarzy się coś ważnego. Na balu wreszcie odbyła szczerą rozmowę z Sabiną de Castel-Morgeat.
Angélique was second only to Madame de Mercouville in status in Quebec. She breathed a sigh of relief on discovering that Father de Maubeuge was a friend and ally to Joffrey and has sent the Jesuit d'Orgeval on a mission to the Iroquois prior to their arrival. In the meantime Quebec was preparing for a grand ball in the New Year to be held the day after the Epiphany. A fever of excitement and anticipation seized all the invited guests. The Countess had a premonition that something important was just lurking over the horizon. During the ball she was able to have a frank and open discussion with Sabine de Castel-Morgeat.
W pierwszych dniach marca temperatura się obniżyła. Dni były mroźne, a szalejące w mieście śnieżyce wzbijały tumany białego puchu. Choć obecność hrabiny i jej męża wprawiała niekiedy w zakłopotanie mieszkańców Quebecu na czele z biskupem de Lavalem, aprobowali oni ich działania na rzecz pokoju. Pod koniec zimy małżeństwo Angeliki i Joffreya zostało wystawione na ciężką próbę. Na drodze do ich szczęścia stanęła nie tylko zawistna Sabina de Castel-Morgeat, ale także zakochany w hrabinie Mikołaj de Bardagne.
During the first few days of March the temperature started to drop dramatically. Day time brought freezing temperatures allowing the the swirling snow to settle. Although the presence of the Countess and her husband created mixed feelings within the community of the Quebec inhabitants, at the behest of Bishop Laval peace was the order of the day. As the winter approached its end the union of Angélique and Joffrey was once again put to a great test. Their joint nemeses proved to be Sabine de Castel-Morgeat and the infatuated Count Nicholas de Bardagne.
Books 24 and 25 - Route de l'Espoir
Po tym, jak król Francji zwrócił hrabiemu de Peyrac i jego żonie tytuły i majątki, para opuściła Quebec, by udać się w podróż wzdłuż wybrzeża Nowej Anglii i zarzucić kotwicę w małym porcie Salem. Joffrey stał się szanowanym przywódcą, a jego wpływy sięgały w głąb lądu aż do źródeł Kennebecu. Angelika marzyła, by zakończyć wieczną tułaczkę i zacząć nowe życie, z dala od niebezpieczeństw. Jednak najsilniejszym pragnieniem hrabiny było urodzenie Joffreyowi dziecka, pieczętującego ich bezgraniczną miłość.
After the King of France had reinstated Count and Countess Peyrac their titles, rank and fortune, the couple left Quebec to travel down the coast of New England to the small port town of Salem. Joffrey had already proved himself to be a fair and just leader and his influence stretched as far inland as the source of the Kennebec. Angélique longed for an end to the perpetual nomadic existence they had been leading and wanted to start her new life free of all danger. But at this time, her greatest wish was to bear Joffrey another child to truly cement their love.
Hrabiostwo de Peyrac spędzili zimę w oddalonej od Gouldsboro fortecy Wapassou. Honorata zaczęła widywać w snach straszną kobietę, pojawiającą się w towarzystwie czarnej zjawy. Count and Countess Peyrac spent the following winter in Wapassou. Honorine had started to experience nightmares featuring a terrible and powerful woman who was always present in a dark shadow. Angélique had a premonition that her daughter was seeing Ambroisine, who wanted to continue exacting her revenge at any cost. Since birth, the Countess had the gift of foresight and clairvoyancy. Her plans for the summer were to travel to Ville Marie at the base of the mountains of Montreal and there to leave Honorine in the safe hands and under the protection of Marguerite Bourgeoys.
Books 26, 27 and 28 - Victoire
W drodze do Quebecu Angelika z Joffreyem zatrzymali się w Tadoussac. Tam hrabina spotkała dawnego przyjaciela ojca d'Orgevala, Klaudiusza de Lomenie, który odczytał ostatni list jezuity. Dyskusje z Lomeniem pozwoliły Angelice lepiej poznać tajemniczą postać jej największego wroga, który nawet po śmierci miał decydować o jej losie - umierając, wypowiedział bowiem straszliwą klątwę. Gdy flota de Peyraców dopływała do Gouldsboro, hrabina zaniepokoiła się widokiem opustoszałych ulic miasta i zabitych deskami okien domów. Nie opuszczały jej najgorsze myśli. Czy Kobieta Demon rzuciła czary na miasto?
On their way to Quebec, Angélique and Joffrey stopped off at Tadoussac. There, the Countess came across an old friend of Father d'Orgeval, Claude de Lomenie, who read out to her d'Orgevals final letter. Discussing the contents of the letter with Lomenie Angélique gained a greater insight into her great enemy, who even in death could decide her fate - as he lay dying he still condemned her with a terrible calumny. Her worst fears were realised as they approached Gouldsboro which with its boarded windows and deserted streets looked like a ghost town. Had the Demon cast a spell on the whole town?

Angélique's worst nightmares were fulfilled - they discovered that the coffin in Tigmadouche did not contain the remains of the Duchess de Maudribourg. The frightening spectre of Ambroisine became a reality as she returned to Quebec as the wife of the new Governor. On hearing that the Demon was intending to travel to Montreal, Angélique immediately sent a messenger to the escort that was to take her daughter from Marguerite de Bourgeoys school back to Wapassou. During the endless and freezing winter months Angélique found herself ministering to a man whose enmity had influenced the life of her family for a very long period. She found it difficult to believe that she had actually taken into her home Sebastian d'Orgeval. After many weeks of nurturing him back to health their joint enmity had subsided and they had established an uneasy truce. However she was unable to stop thinking about the fate of her daughter Honorine amongst the Iroquois and her beloved husband who was out there somewhere fighting for the very existence of their family.
