Agnieszka Radwanska: W przyszłym roku moze być tylko lepiej
Agnieszka Radwańska głęboko wierzy, że przed nią jeszcze kilka lat dobrej gry. Polska tenisistka podsumowała zakończony rok i już wkrótce rozpocznie przygotowania do kolejnego sezonu.
Agnieszka Radwańska firmly believes that she still has several years of good play left in her. That is how she summed up her current year and will soon begin her preparations for the coming season.
- Na pewno jest to gorszy sezon niż pozostałe, tego nie da się ukryć. Ten rok był ciężki przede wszystkim ze względu na mnóstwo problemów ze zdrowiem. Narzekałam na kontuzję stopy, z którą męczę się już ponad rok i dalej jeszcze jej nie zwalczyłam. Dopadło mnie również kilka wirusów, a powrót po nich trwa kilka tygodni i wiadomo, że wówczas turnieje uciekają - powiedziała Agnieszka Radwańska.
'Certainly this was a more disappointing season than previously and that can't be hidden. This year, in particular, was difficult because of many health issues, in particular the injury to my foot which has impacted on my game for over a year and which still hasn't been resolved. I also succumbed to several viral infections which laid me off for several weeks and delayed my return to full health, in the meantime my points were falling off from previously successful tournaments' said Agnieszka Radwańska.
Krakowianka powróciła z wakacji i udzieliła wywiadu Michałowi Lewandowskiemu z TVP Sport. Nasza tenisistka jest przekonana, że będzie jeszcze prezentowała tenis na wysokim poziomie. - Na pewno jeszcze jest okazja, żeby to nadrobić. Nie skończyłam kariery, jeszcze kilka lat przede mną, więc mam nadzieję i liczę na to, że wrócę. W przyszłym roku może być tylko lepiej - dodała.
The Cracovian granted an interview to Michał Lewandowski of TVP Sport on her return from her holiday. Our home tennis player is convinced that she will still attain and continue to play tennis to a very high standard. 'I'm convinced that there is still an opportunity to catch up. I haven't ended my career, there are still several years ahead of me and I'm counting on those for my return. It can only get better next year' she added.
Radwańska ma świadomość, że kobiecy tenis ciągle się zmienia i pojawiają się nowe nazwiska. Młode zawodniczki coraz bardziej liczą się w walce o tytuły wielkoszlemowe. - Wiek nie ma teraz tak dużego znaczenia, jak było to kiedyś. Dziewczyny w wieku 18-19 lat grają już na wysokim poziomie, jakby występowały w tourze już co najmniej 10 lat.
Radwańska is acutely aware that women's tennis is constantly changing and new names emerging on a regular basis. Younger rivals are increasingly competing for the grand slams. 'Age doesn't have such an impact as it used to in previous years. Girls of 18-19 are already playing at such a high level, exhibiting the sort of experience that only ten years of touring can give you.

Our representative denied the notion that her wedding to trainer and life partner Dawid Celt had influenced her current poor tennis form. The Pole fully intends to continue playing for the foreseeable future. 'I'd really like the next two or three years to prove to be my best on court' stated "Isia", who surely isn't planning to play until she is 37 before thinking of starting a family.
W wyniku słabszej postawy Radwańska zakończy sezon w trzeciej dziesiątce rankingu WTA. Oznacza to, że w większych turniejach będzie mogła już we wcześniejszej fazie trafić na groźniejsze rywalki. Krakowianka będzie potrzebowała więc trochę szczęścia w losowaniu. Sezon 2018 powita w Auckland, gdzie zagra także m.in. Karolina Woźniacka.
Owing to her weakened performance this season Radwańska will drop down to around the 30s in the WTA rankings. This will impact on her seeding at the bigger tournaments and could pit her against much stronger and higher ranked rivals in the earlier rounds. The Cracovian will need some luck in the tournament draws. She will start her 2018 season in Auckland where one of her opponents will be Caroline Wozniaki of Denmark. (Translation by J Anna Ludlow)

Aga is offering her Wedding Dress and Veil up for auction to raise funds for charity!

Allegro says : "Agnieszka już po raz kolejny ofiarowuje na nasze aukcje niesamowity przedmiot. Tym razem przecudna suknia ślubna razem z dwoma welonami wysadzonymi kamieniami Svarowskiego. Kreację zaprojektowała Agnieszka Maciejak. Suknia utkana z jedwabnej siatki i ,,piórkowanej" organzy, do tego zdobiona kwiecistymi motywami ciętymi z francuskiej koronki oraz haftowana tysiącami szklanych paciorków. Suknia ślubna Agnieszki Radwańskiej powstała z ponad 100 metrów materiału i jest pokryta 6,5 tysiącami kamieni, ręcznie wszywanych."
Not for the first time has Agnieszka offered an incredible personal item to our auction house. This time it is her beautiful wedding dress and the two veils covered in individual Svarowski crystals. The dress was designed by Agnieszka Maciejak. The dress is a mixture of woven silk netting and 'feathered' organza overlain with flower motifs of french lace and embroidered with hundreds of glass beads. Agnieszka Radwańska's dress was created from over 100 metres of material and covered in 6,500 hand sewn beads.

Former WTA World No.2 Agnieszka Radwanska may be looking to put this season behind her, but the Pole heads into 2018 with one last accolade as she takes home top honors for Shot of the Year for the fifth time. Since the Award began in 2013, Radwanska has never failed to wow fans the world over with her crafty shotmaking and incredible improvisation. Such instincts were on display at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open, where she turned defense to offense in a stunning way to thwart a would-be winner from future Henging Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai champion Julia Goerges. Agnieszka Radwańska dziś miała obronę i w końcu zdobyła tytuł licencjata. Studiowała na Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego w Krakowie na Wydziale Turystyki i Rekreacji. Myślicie, że często bywała na zajęciach? Agnieszka Radwańska: "Jest licencjat". Agnieszka Radwańska succeeded today in graduating and obtaining a bachelor's degree. "Agnieszka and Urszula boasted on social networks as a university. For two days tennis players have been graduates of the Academy of Physical Education in Kraków. Robert Lewandowski, Piotr Żyła and now the Radwańskie sisters have obtained higher education. Agnieszka and her younger sister Urszula started their studies at the Faculty of Tourism and Recreation at the Academy of Physical Education in Kraków in 2009. So far it hasn't been the most successful return to her professional career but Aga did make it to the Connecticut Tournament and as defending champion was mentioned in the Radio Times - although not reaching the final this time, after one of her on-court successes post-match interview she proclaimed herself a 'very happy wife.'

Najlepsza w historii polska tenisistka. Mistrzyni świata WTA i finalistka Wimbledonu. Szczęśliwie zakochana i z milionami na koncie. Na palcu skrzy się platyna i lada moment ślub.
Czy coś może zarysować ten idealny obrazek? Agnieszka Radwańska wydaje właśnie biografię. Za mediami nie przepada, to jedyny wywiad, jakiego udzieliła w przeddzień premiery książki (odbyła się 19 lipca). Mówi w nim m.in. o złamanej przyjaźni, bolesnym mierzeniu się z oczekiwaniami innych i zdradza plan na daleką przyszłość. A jest to plan idealny.
Rachela Berkowska (WP Książki): Nie lubisz mówić o sobie. Spodziewałam się książki o sporcie, a tu zaskoczenie, dzielisz się prywatnością.
AR: To prawda, nie lubię być w centrum uwagi. Pomysł wydania książki pojawił się jeszcze w 2005 roku. Niedługo po tym, jak wygrałam juniorski Wimbledon. Nie czułam tego, byłam przecież dzieckiem. Co innego teraz, kiedy od dziesięciu lat jestem w czołówce WTA. Ale to książka nie tylko dla sportowców. Jestem normalną dziewczyną i mam też życie prywatne. Oczywiście mocno okrojone, wiadomo, że sport zajmuje pierwsze miejsce. Ale "Jestem Isia" miała opowiadać o wszystkim - zakupach, nerwach, rodzeństwie, kobiecości…
…przyjaciołach. W książce są kapitalne prywatne zdjęcia.
AR: W czasach, kiedy każdy chciałby wszystko o innych wiedzieć i każdy drobiazg znajduje się natychmiast w internecie, oni znają moje sekrety i nigdy mnie nie zdradzili. Doceniam te związki
Ale opowiedziałaś też o byłej przyjaciółce. Dziewczynie, która cię okradła. Obdarowywałaś ją prezentami, ale jej było mało. Zabierała twoje rzeczy i w końcu złapałaś ją za rękę. Ciekawi mnie - chcesz usłyszeć: "Przepraszam"?
AR: Nie chciałam się żalić, nie czekam też na przeprosiny. Na to już sporo za późno. Dla mnie to są rzeczy niewybaczalne i koniec. Chciałam, żeby ta historia była przestrogą dla innych. Dla tych, którzy coś osiągnęli. W obliczu pieniędzy, nawet najbliższe przyjaźnie mogą zawieść.
Wytykają ci te pieniądze. "Swoje miliony ciężko wybiegałam" - mówisz.
AR: Dokładnie. Bo to nie jest zapłata za półtorej godziny na korcie - jak niektórzy chcieliby mówić. Ale za ciężką pracę od dziecka. A ja gram w tenisa 23 lata. Miałam namiastkę dzieciństwa. Rodzice się starali, żebym pojechała na kilka dni na Zieloną Szkołę, poszła na czyjeś urodziny, ale to były chwile. Życie płynęło na korcie. W czasach, kiedy każdy chciałby wszystko o innych wiedzieć i każdy drobiazg znajduje się natychmiast w internecie, oni znają moje sekrety i nigdy mnie nie zdradzili. Doceniam te związki.
I nie raz trzeba było wyciągnąć ostatni grosz, żeby opłacić trening.
AR: Dziadek miał trzy cenne obrazy. Sprzedał dwa z nich, kiedy rodzicom zabrakło pieniędzy na wynajęcie kortów w Krakowie.
A potem, dziennikarze zamiast doceniać miejsce w czołówce, pytają: "Dlaczego nie grasz lepiej?". Pamiętam falę hejtu, która rozlała się po porażce w turnieju olimpijskim w Londynie. To okrutne.
AR: Owszem. To nie jest przyjemne czuć, że moje sukcesy są niewystarczające. Sama od siebie wymagam bycia numerem jeden, ale kiedy to inni wymagają, żebym zgarniała wszystkie tytuły, czuję presję. Mam wrażenie, że wielu, zwykłych ludzi i dziennikarzy, nie zdaje sobie sprawy z tego, że kiedyś przestanę grać w tenisa. I wtedy będzie pustka. Bywają obcesowi wobec jedynej osoby w historii polskiego tenisa, która przez tyle lat utrzymuje się na tak wysokiej pozycji. Którą się ogląda, komentuje. Ona od dekady jest na świeczniku. Ale za chwilę jej nie będzie. Wszyscy znają przysłowie - "Mądry Polak po szkodzie". Do ludzi to dotrze dopiero, kiedy przestanę grać.
Masz taką datę w głowie?
AR: Nie ma jakiegoś ustalonego wieku, w którym się schodzi z kortu. To indywidualna sprawa. Dużo zależy od zdrowia. Mam chęci i motywację, ale przyznaję, że moje zdrowie coraz bardziej szwankuje.
Co ci dokucza?
AR: Wszystko, bo tenis to całe ciało - stopy, kręgosłup, kolana, bark, dłoń. Gra się z bólem.
Zastrzyk, który pozwoli przetrwać starcie i wychodzisz na kort?
AR: Blokad miałam w życiu tyle, że ich nie zliczę.
Ostatnio miałaś problem z jakimś paskudnym wirusem, jak się dziś czujesz?
AR: Biorę właśnie kolejną dawkę antybiotyków, żeby już nie wrócił. W tym roku przechodziłam dwa takie ciężkie momenty. Złapałam wirusy, których zwalczenie kosztowało mnie sporo energii, sporo wagi straciłam. A potem wracanie do zdrowia, formy, kondycji, to nie jest kilka dni, tylko kilka tygodni. No i stopa daje o sobie znać. Trenuję intensywnie, biegam na niej, to nie pomaga. Niestety te przewlekłe kontuzje nie leczą się tak szybko, jakbym tego chciała. Nie jestem stara, a coraz dotkliwiej czuję wiek (śmiech).
Nie masz oporów, by pisać o tym, jak się gra, mając okres. Wiele kobiet w te kilka dni w miesiącu poważnie cierpi, a ty grasz mecze. Myślałam, że możliwe są jakieś medyczne sztuczki.
AR: Sport uprawiam zawodowo, dwanaście miesięcy w roku. Jak każda kobieta, co miesiac mam okres. Nie ucieknę przed tym. Nie przesunę występów, bo gram przez bite dziesięć miesięcy. Ktoś powie, że się nie da. Może się nie da, ale trzeba.
Kiedy przegrasz, nigdy nie płaczesz, jak często inne zawodniczki. Przyznałaś, że tylko podczas jednej z konferencji połykałaś łzy. Jak odreagowujesz?
AR: Staram się być opanowana, coraz lepiej mi to wychodzi.
No proszę cię, musisz mieć jakiś wentyl. Płaczesz podczas reklam proszków do prania, chodzisz na długie spacery, sięgasz po lody?
AR: Och, lody. Oczywiście.
Truskawkowym sorbetem i kieliszkiem szampana świętowałam zwycięstwo Łukasza Kubota i Marcela Melo na trawiastych kortach wielkoszlemowego Wimbledonu w grze podwójnej. Widzisz siebie w deblu?
AR: Opowiadam w książce o naszej pierwszej randce z Dawidem, platynowym pierścionku zaręczynowym, wspólnym życiu, śniadaniach do łóżka, które wolimy od kolacji przy świecach. O tym, że można żyć razem, razem pracować i dogadywać się, kiedy wszystko dzieje się w szalonym tempie. Odpowiadałam cierpliwie Arturowi Rolakowi na pytania, przegadaliśmy długie godziny. Ale daty ślubu nie zdradziłam nawet jemu.
Z wypiekami przeczytałam ostatnie książkowe pytanie. To o akademii tenisowej firmowanej twoim nazwiskiem. Obiecałaś poważnie o tym pomyśleć.
To jest piękny plan na aktywną emeryturę.

"Najlepsza w historii polska tenisistka za mediami nie przepada… Wywiadów – krótkich i wyłącznie o sporcie – udziela tylko podczas turniejów. Artur Rolak jest jednak jedynym polskim dziennikarzem, który ma imienne miejsce na trybunie prasowej centralnego kortu Wimbledonu, a Agnieszkę Radwańską zna od czasów obiecującej juniorki. Rozmawiają zatem jak starzy, dobrzy znajomi, ale trudnych pytań i szczerych odpowiedzi nie brakuje. I nie trzeba się znać na sporcie, by docenić wartość tych zwierzeń.
Mistrzyni świata WTA i finalistka Wimbledonu okazuje się być nie tylko wybitną sportsmenką. To także trzeźwo myśląca, zaskakująco dojrzała osoba i szczęśliwie zakochana kobieta, której horyzontów nie przesłaniają zarobione na korcie dziesiątki milionów. Oczywiście pojawiają się też anegdoty, po których uśmiejecie się do łez!"

Former BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global champion Agnieszka Radwanska has already had quite the career, which the former World No.2 has immortalized in her first book, Jestem Isia. Written in Polish, the book is currently for sale via Poland's premier bookseller, Empik, and details her life so far, career achievements and goals for the future.

Radwańska: Biorę kolejną dawkę antybiotyków / "Still taking the anti-biotics"

Reprezentantka Polski udzieliła obszernego wywiadu.
Agnieszka Radwańska we wtorek zorganizowała spotkanie ze swoimi kibicami, podczas którego promowała książkę pod tytułem „Jestem Isia”. Polka przy okazji odpowiadała na pytania dziennikarzy.
Tym, co nas nurtuje jest oczywiście stan zdrowia naszej najlepszej zawodniczki. Wprawdzie Radwańska wyzbyła się już choroby, to jednak wciąż bierze leki. – Wyszłam z tego, choć teraz biorę kolejną dawkę antybiotyków, żeby choroba nie wróciła. W tym roku miałam bardzo ciężkie okresy. Dopadły mnie dwa wirusy, które kosztowały dużo zdrowia, energii i wagi. Powrót do treningu, formy, kondycji, zajmuje w takiej sytuacji kilka tygodni, zwłaszcza kiedy są upały. Niestety – wciąż o sobie daje znać stopa, która przeszkadza jej w powrocie do swojej najlepszej dyspozycji. – Trwa to już od ponad roku. Jeśli na korcie biega się tyle co ja, i to już od wielu lat, stopa nie leczy się tak, jakby się tego chciało. Przewlekłe kontuzje cały czas są i coraz ciężej z tym walczyć. Stara jeszcze nie jestem, ale wiek coraz bardziej daje o sobie znać na korcie – kontynuuje popularna „Isia”.
Radwańska do gry wróci w drugim tygodniu sierpnia, kiedy weźmie udział w turnieju WTA w Toronto. – W tym roku skupiam się na tym, żeby poradzić sobie z problemami zdrowotnymi. Mam jeszcze trochę czasu do wyjazdu do Ameryki Północnej, starty tam zacznę od Kanady, więc mam jeszcze prawie trzy tygodnie. Postaram się podleczyć i mam nadzieję, że druga połowa sezonu będzie lepsza od pierwszej – zdradziła krakowianka.
Reprezentantka Polski wypowiedziała się także na temat promowanej książki, którą napisała wraz z Arturem Rolakiem. – Z Arturem znamy się od lat, mamy za sobą ponad 30 wywiadów. Artur rozumie tenis, a to duże ułatwienie. Wiem, bo kiedy dostaję do akceptacji rozmowę z kolorowego magazynu, kasuję prawie wszystko i piszę ją od nowa. Książki pisać od nowa nie chciałam – żartowała finalistka Wimbledonu z 2012 roku. Pierwszą propozycję dostałam po wygraniu juniorskiego Wimbledonu. Później też było ich mnóstwo, ale z miejsca je odrzucałam, uznając, że jest jeszcze za wcześnie. Wydaje mi się, że książkę można napisać, kiedy ma się już coś do opowiedzenia, coś się osiągnęło. Nie chodzi o to, żeby robić to, bo można, albo bo każdy pisze. Po dziesięciu latach w czołowej dziesiątce rankingu WTA ten właściwy moment chyba nadszedł – opisała Radwańska. Source : tenis24.eu
Agnieszka Radwańska: "Jestem optymistką" / "I'm an optimist"

Po Wimbledonie Agnieszka Radwańska zbiera siły i szykuje się na drugą część sezonu. - Do wyjazdu na drugą półkulę mam jeszcze niespełna trzy tygodnie, chce ten czas wykorzystać na wyleczenie, bo wciąż jeszcze nie czuję się w 100 procentach zdrowa - powiedziała krakowska tenisistka.

Rozmowa z Agnieszką Radwańską", bo tak będzie brzmieć jej tytuł to wywiad-rzeka, który przeprowadził Artur Rolak. To dziennikarz, którego widoku podczas Wimbledonu nie mógł znieść Jerzy Janowicz. - Z Agnieszką znam się ponad 12 lat. Niewiele się zmieniła przez ten czas. Wciąż jest bardzo skromna. A czy mógłbym napisać książkę także wspólnie z Janowiczem? Czemu nie - odpowiedział dziennikarz wywołując salwy śmiechu wśród gości konferencji i samej Radwańskiej. - Pierwszą propozycję napisania biografii dostałam już po wygraniu juniorskiego Wimbledonu. Ale było dla mnie stanowczo zbyt wcześnie. Później takie zapytania pojawiały się regularnie, było przynajmniej kilkanaście, ale nie byłam tym zainteresowana. Teraz w związku z kontuzjami miałam więcej czasu, częściej przebywałam w Polsce i uznałam, że to dobry moment. Zdecydowałam się na współpracę z Arturem Rolakiem, bo znamy się od lat. On wie, o co chodzi w tenisie, a to było dla mnie bardzo ważne. Czasem zdarzało mi się tak, że gdy dostawałam wywiad do autoryzacji z jakiegoś kolorowego magazynu, to kwestie o tenisie musiałam sama pisać od nowa, bo dziennikarz w ogóle nie miał pojęcia o mojej dyscyplinie sportu - tłumaczyła Radwańska.

Jedną z osób, która na ostatniej stronie zachwala literacką pozycję spod pióra Isi i Rolaka jest Łukasz Kubot. - Poprosiłam go o to mniej więcej tydzień przed startem Wimbledonu i okazało się to być strzałem w dziesiątkę. Bardzo się cieszę, że wygrał debla. Wcale mu nie zazdroszczę, że nie zostanę pierwszą Polką, która wygrała ten turniej, zresztą ja już sama triumfowałam na Wimbledonie jeszcze jako juniorka. Łukasz jak nikt zasłużył sobie na taki sukces. To przykład sportowca, który jest ogromnie zaangażowany w to, co robi - zachwalała kolegę z kortu. Jak sama zapewniła, pod koniec kariery nie zamierza pójść w jego ślady i próbować sił jako deblistka. - Na razie nie mam takich planów, choć wiadomo, że kobieta jest zmienną. Ale wydaje mi się, że koniec gry singlowej będzie równocześnie końcem mojej profesjonalnej kariery - dodała.
Radwańska wciąż dochodzi do siebie po niekończących się problemach zdrowotnych, które prześladują ją od początku sezonu. - Za mną bardzo ciężki okres. Przeszłam dwa bardzo ciężkie zapalenia wirusowe, wciąż jeszcze biorę antybiotyki. A lato to nie jest najlepszy czas na walkę z tego typu chorobą. Do tego nie jestem już najmłodszą zawodniczką i najzwyczajniej w świecie potrzebuję więcej czasu na regenerację. Ale jestem optymistką. Chcę, żeby druga połowa roku była dla mnie bardziej udana - stwierdziła 28-latka. Najbliższe dni najlepsza polska tenisistka w historii spędzi w Polsce. Na temat planowanego ślubu ze swoim trenerem i narzeczonym Dawidem Celtem nie chciała nic powiedzieć, choć potwierdziła, że data uroczystości jest już ustalona, ale wszyscy zainteresowani trzymają ją w tajemnicy.

In preparation for the clay 2017 season Aga positions herself for the perfect serve.
In addition to the mayhem created by former tennis star Ilie Nastase in Romania earlier this month (April 2017) by bad mouthing the British Federation Cup Team and court officials, the return of Maria Sharapova after her doping ban is also throwing an unsportsmanlike pall over the coming clay season. Spokespeople for the tennis professional have finally broken their silence and allowed their hostility to become public in particular targeting Pole Agnieszka Radwańska, Dane Caroline Wozniaki and Brit Andy Murray who in particular has been very outspoken about drug cheats. Sharapova's team representative Max Eisenbud refers to the female players as 'journeymen' wanting to capitalise on the absence of Williams, Azarenka and Kvitova to avail themselves of a Grand Slam Trophy - we shall see!

This was not the 'interview to end all interview' or on some deeply serious subject - it was a chat about what was going wrong with Aga's game, her drop in the rankings and the fact that she didn't have any visible 'foibles' or 'superstitions' when on court but she was, it seemed, always rubbing some form of cream into her hands. Aga handled it with aplomb, she pointed out that she was aware and disappointed that the start of her year had not gone as well as it could. These things happen she explained because there are so many different factors that influence a performance on the day. The reporter then insisted that surely her drop in the the rankings was evidence of something being wrong? Again Aga stated that rankings can change on a weekly, daily or even hourly basis, something that she used to find disconcerting in her early career, but since becoming a regular in the top 10 her schedule was much more manageable whether at the top or bottom end and she knew what her obligations were well in advance and could timetable accordingly. The reporter then mentioned April Fools day and asked if Aga had participated in any jokes or had had any played on her? She replied in the negative. The reporter then pressed her about 'superstitions' on court, that she had not noticed anything particular about Aga's presentation of herself on court but that she was aware that Aga was constantly smearing cream on her hands - at this Aga laughed out loud and assured the reporter that she was not pampering herself with some exotic hand cream. She is in fact using a gel which helps to dry out the perspiration quickly to enable her to keep a grip on her racket - with that, the somewhat unedifying interview ended.

Aga qualifies for the prestigious year end BNP Paribas WTA Singles
Reigning champion Agnieszka Radwańska and Karolina Pliskova became the latest players to qualify for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global on Tuesday (4th October).
Defeat for Dominika Cibulkova at the China Open guaranteed Radwańska and recent US Open finalist Pliskova their places at the season-ending showpiece, joining Angelique Kerber, Serena Williams and Simona Halep in the singles field.
"Congratulations to Aga and Karolina on qualifying for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global," said WTA CEO Steve Simon. "Both have had incredible years, each winning multiple WTA titles - an impressive feat very few players accomplish each year. We are thrilled to see Aga back in Singapore to defend the Billie Jean King Trophy, as well as Karolina, who will compete at her first WTA Finals."
Radwańska has built on her success at last year's tournament, enjoying another wonderfully consistent year. Titles in Shenzhen and New Haven have been backed up by deep runs at the Australian Open, Doha, Indian Wells, Stuttgart and Tokyo.
A fixture at the season finale for the past five years, the Pole is looking forward to the challenge of defending her crown. "It's the goal of everyone to qualify for the WTA Finals, and I'm happy to be returning to defend my title," Radwańska said. "I've played at Singapore for a few years now, and qualifying again this year means I've had a great season - to be in the Top 8. It won't be easy to defend my title, but that's the goal. It will be exciting and a challenge to see different names and faces in this year's field."

'Kontuzji doznałam podczas pierwszego meczu. W środowy wieczór i w czwartek rano miałam zabiegi, ale po spotkaniu sytuacja jeszcze się pogorszyła - powiedziała najlepsza polska tenisistka podczas czwartkowej konferencji prasowej.'
W środę Agnieszka Radwańska rozgromiła na otwarcie Niemkę Tatjanę Marię 6:1, 6:2. Z kolei w czwartek nie dała żadnych szans Rosjance Jewgieniji Rodinie, którą zwyciężyła 6:1, 6:1. W piątek na drodze Polki miała stanąć powracająca do dawnej formy po poważnym urazie pleców Shuai Peng, lecz krakowianka wycofała się z rywalizacji z Chinką. W Azji występuję już od kilku tygodni z rzędu, dlatego podjęłam ostateczną decyzję o wycofaniu się. To nigdy nie jest łatwe, ponieważ w każdym turnieju walczę o tytuł. Mam nadzieję, że wystąpię w Tiencinie za rok - dodała "Isia". Agnieszka Radwanska explains her withdrawal 'The situation has deteriorated.'
Because of an injury to her right thigh, Agnieszka Radwańska, the defending champion, was forced to withdraw from her upcoming quarter-final match at the WTA International Hard Court Tournament in Tianjin. During her Press Conference, Poland’s no. 1 player explained that she had sustained the injury in her first match on Wednesday. It worsened on Wednesday evening and following further treatment on Thursday it became apparent that she would not be fit enough to continue.
Prior to the match against Shuai Peng, the local favourite, Agnieszka Radwańska had successfully overcome German Tatjana Maria 6-1 6-2 and Russian Evgeniya Rodina 6-1 6-1 before withdrawing from the competition.
‘Isia’ added that she had already played several tournaments in the ‘Asian Swing’ - Tokyo, Wuhan and Beijing before travelling to Tianjin and had considered her decision very carefully before announcing her withdrawal. She also stated that she was mindful that any prolonged injury would threaten her chances in the WTA Championships to be held in Singapore between 23-30 October.

From the WTA website : BEIJING, China - No.3 seed Agnieszka Radwańska outlasted friend and rival Caroline Wozniacki, 6-3, 6-1, to finish their Asian Swing series with two wins and reach the quarterfinals of the China Open. Radwańska thrice faced off against Wozniacki during the Asian Swing; the former No.1 upset the Pole en route to the Toray Pan Pacific Open title, but the 2015 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global champion got her revenge last week at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open.
"I don't think it happened to me ever to play someone three weeks in a row," she said in press. "Good we're playing in different tournaments next week so we can't play against each other again! "Playing Caro is always a pleasure, always great matches. For me is also a very good challenge to play someone that solid, that consistent.
"We've known each other for 17 years. Practicing together as well almost every tournament, playing some matches against each other. I think we know about each other everything. "But, of course, every match is different story. I think we showed that every week."
With Beijing serving as the site of their fall series tie-break, Radwańska displayed all of her signature guile and cunning against Wozniacki, who had been on a tear since reaching the semifinals of the US Open.

From a break deficit to start the match, the former World No.2 took control of the match in stunning fashion, racing out to a set and 5-1 lead before she and Wozniacki treated the crowd to a tense ending in which she saved a pair of break points before serving out her spot in the last eight on her third match point.
"I think everything was working for me today. Just maybe a slow start. That wasn't really great. But then everything was smooth and I was really trying to play aggressive, really coming in. I was serving also good. "I cannot really complain about anything. The score looks good, so I think just tells everything."
In all, the stats showed the Pole maintaining an aggressive mindset, hitting 18 winners to just nine unforced errors; Wozniacki hit the same number of winners, but was undone by 21 unforced errors.
After the match, Radwańska received an honorary accolade from the China Open, who named the 2011 champion "Most Energetic Player."
"It's always great to achieve awards like this. I really appreciate it. That was a surprise for me. I didn't know. Well, another trophy for the collection!"

Poland also boasts Urszula (younger sister of Agnieszka) Radwańska, Magda Linette, Alicja Rosolska, Klaudia Jans-Ognacik and Paula Kania among others in their Federation Cup Team. Where Polish tennis is concerned with the success of Jerzy Janowicz primarily in the men's singles and Łukasz Kubot and Marcin Matkowski in the men's doubles Poland has 'never had it so good.' Caroline has progressed through another round of the US Open to reach the quarter finals and the Press, it seems, were more interested in her social status than her achievement - Caroline answered questions put to at her post-match interview :
"It’s a wonderful feeling to find myself in the quarter-finals in New York again. I love this tournament and adore being here – this is really big for me.
Question: You were at a different stage in your lives. But everybody grows up, and on the tour everybody becomes more professional, has their own teams. Can you look back on that kind of time and how different it was and maybe if you have any stories to share about that vacations with Aga and Angie?

Serena Stays On Course: Serena Williams entered the US Open as the WTA World No.1 ranked player, a distinction she has held since February 18, 2013 - a streak that will extend to 186 consecutive weeks through the US Open, tying the WTA record for most consecutive weeks at No.1 held by Stefanie Graf (186 weeks, August 17, 1986 through March 10, 1991).
Overall, the fortnight of 2016 US Open is Serena Williams' 308th and 309th weeks at World No.1 - however she could lose her status at the top of the rankings at the completion of the US Open - with Angelique Kerber and Agnieszka Radwańska having a shot at deposing the 22-time Grand Slam champion and bidding to become the 22nd woman to sit atop the WTA Rankings since their introduction in November 1975
Williams held a 190 point advantage over Angelique Kerber going into the US Open but when last year's points are dropped (Williams reached SF, Kerber fell in 3r in 2015), Kerber has a 460-point advantage. Therefore, to remain at No.1, Williams will need to at least reach the semifinals and possibly advance further:
- If Kerber reaches the US Open quarterfinals by defeating Petra Kvitova today, Williams will need to reach the final to have a chance at keeping the No.1 ranking
- If Kerber advances to the US Open final, Williams will need to lift her 23rd Grand Slam title to hold on to the top spot.
Williams' ranking points have come from seven tournaments in the last 52 weeks - 2015 US Open (780), Australian Open (1300), Indian Wells (650), Miami (120), Rome (900), Roland Garros (1300) and Wimbledon (2000).

Radwanska edges Konta to take women's Series crown

This year’s Emirates Airline US Open Series women’s championship came down to the wire, with Agnieszka Radwańska winning the Connecticut Open to steal the 2016 Series crown from Johanna Konta. Radwańska’s victory over Elina Svitolina in Saturday’s Connecticut Open final gave her 220 points in the summer season’s Bonus Challenge, matching Konta. The world No. 4 earned the Series title based on a tiebreaker – in this case head-to-head match up. Radwańska beat Konta in round of 16 in Cincinnati.
In addition to her victory in New Haven, Radwańska reached the quarterfinals at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and the round of 16 at the Rogers Cup in Montreal. That was enough to edge Konta, who won the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, Calif., to open the Series season and also reached the quarterfinals in Montreal and the round of 16 in Cincinnati. Rogers Cup champion Simona Halep finished third in the Series standings, with 145 points.
All three women are now eligible to add bonus prize money at the 2016 US Open. Radwańska would earn $1 million in bonus prize money should she claim her first Grand Slam title in Flushing Meadows, while Konta could add a maximum of $500,000 and Halep a max of $250,000.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) Top-seeded Agnieszka Radwańska completed a dominating week at the Connecticut Open on Sunday, beating Elina Svitolina 6-1, 7-6 (3) in the final then spraying her coaches and friends with champagne. The Polish star didn’t drop a set during the tournament, her 19th WTA championship. She took control of the final from the start, winning 20 of the first 27 points, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. She ran the 21-year-old Ukrainian all over the court, chasing down shots and placing her own with pinpoint accuracy. Svitolina held off two set points in the sixth game, but Radwańska was able to serve out the set in 29 minutes.
”I was really feeling good this week,” Radwańska said. ”Everything was working. I was feeling very confident on that court.” The second set was much closer. It included three service breaks for each player and a 37-shot rally in the ninth game. Radwańska broke serve in that game to go up 5-4 and seemed to be in control, especially after Svitolina turned her ankle chasing a lob shot. But the 10th seed rallied, breaking back and going up 6-5. Radwańska saved two set points to force the tiebreaker, and took five of the last six points to win it.
Svitolina committed 36 unforced errors, including a backhand into the net to end the match. ”Set points, they come and go in five seconds,” Svitolina said. ”She served two big serves. She placed it really well.” Radwańska had never before made it past the quarterfinals in New Haven, but had a relatively easy trip this year that included a first round bye and straight set wins over Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, lucky loser Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium and a 6-1, 6-1 semifinal victory over two-time champion Petra Kvitova. She becomes the first top seed to win since Caroline Wozniacki did it in 2011. The title is Radwańska’s second this season after taking the Shenzhen Open in China in January.
She takes home just over $130,000 for winning in Connecticut, but also earned enough points to clinch the U.S. Open Series bonus challenge. That means a chance for up to an extra $1 million, depending on her finish in New York next week, where she will be the No. 4 seed. ”So now it’s everything in my power to do good in the U.S. Open,” she said with a big grin. ”It will be worth it, right?” Svitolina, who beat Serena Williams in the third round at the Olympics, is now 4-1 in WTA finals, but this was her first at a Premier level event. She was playing this tournament for the fourth time and had never before made it out of the first round. She said it was a disappointing first set, but an otherwise encouraging week. ”There is no time to be sad because U.S. Open is just on Monday,” she said.

Aga tells Grzegorz Wojnarowski of Sporting Facts (Poland) why she chose to play with Łukasz Kubot at this years Olympics -
"After losing in the first round of the singles, Agnieszka Radwańska, decided that her only hope of a medal at the Rio Olympics would be in the Mixed Doubles with Łukasz Kubot. How did she come to this decision?"
'After the 52 hour journey from Canada and a heavy cold on top to add to her woes it isn't such a great surprise that I lost 4-6 5-7 in the first round to a much lower ranked opponent, Zheng Saisai of China. Not for the first time did I find myself with a first round loss with no hope of gaining a medal of any colour except perhaps in the mixed. It was felt that owing to the loss and disappointment for a second time I might not want to compete in any other part of the competition still open to me. I was quick to dispel that theory and announced that I would play with Łukasz Kubot.
The Polish 'Queen' of Tennis was asked why she had not chosen Marcin Matkowski in preference to Łukasz Kubot?
"I just wanted to be fair - at the end of the day I wasn't really in a good position to make any demands and the reality is that the highest ranked player I could have called on was Jerzy Janowicz. My decision was based on the fact that as I had partnered Marcin in London and this time I would approach Łukasz.' explained Agnieszka Radwańska.

That 52 hour journey!
Rio 2016 – 52 hours spent wandering the globe. Agnieszka Radwańska tells us about her journey to Rio.
After her 1st round defeat by Zheng Saisai (China) at the Rio Olympics Agnieszka Radwańska opened up to Polish journalists about her journey to Brazil and here’s what she had to say:
The delays began in Montreal (Canada). We waited for an hour, then two then three. Together with other competitors going to Rio we began to feel a bit apprehensive. Eventually we were able to board the plane and were fairly certain we’d get there in time. There were 24 of us, all on this plane, with connecting flights from New York to Rio. The plane was delayed a further 90 minutes on the runway as it was oversubscribed.
In New York we rivalled Usain Bolt – I’ve never run so fast in my life, let alone with two heavy bags to carry. I ran across the length of the airport which must have been about two kilometres, and when I got to my departures gate, dripping wet, I met an immovable obstacle. The air stewardess absolutely refused to allow me on board and insisted I report to the carrier desk. Once again I ran to the designated area only to find 300 people ahead of me in the queue!
They moved me to the ‘hot’ line whilst I was on one phone to my American agent and my Polish agent on the other, who took my call, despite it being 5am in Poland. But, neither of them was able to help and I stood in line until 1am hanging on to the phones. When we finally reached the desk we were given a voucher for a hotel on Long Island which is at least an hours drive from the airport. I won’t repeat how eloquent I was in my pleas.
The re-booked tickets that I was offered were for a flight leaving New York for Rio on Friday evening which would have meant I wouldn’t have been in time for my scheduled match. On that occasion I did say what I thought about the situation but nothing could be done as all the flights, by this time, were backed up. So we began looking for alternative routes and found a potential one via Paris but nothing came of that as a result of strike action taken by airport personnel.
So we grabbed our luggage and asked if there were any hotels closer to the airport than the one that had been offered. Without even checking the attendant stated that everywhere was full. So we piled into a taxi and started to look for local hotels en route; most of them were genuinely full but I took a chance and tried one final one before heading for Long Island and this one had a vacancy. We got to bed at 2.30am. As soon as I woke up I was back onto my agents and the only possibility appeared to be Lisbon and I decided to go for it!
In the meantime we discovered that our luggage would not be released because it had already been loaded onto an alternative scheduled flight and whose airline offices weren’t open until 14.00 hours. As our flight had been booked for 17.00 hours out of Newark there was no reasonable hope of a quick solution and we decided to continue with our original plan. In Lisbon we waited a further 5 hours and from there finally reached Brazil. Amazingly, my luggage was waiting for me there.
We got onto a bus and discovered that there was a bomb scare; needless to say I was in the bus that had just reached the entrance to the Olympic arena and so after 52 hours of rushing about like a mad thing I had a further two hour delay stuck on a bus.’ stated Agnieszka as she reached the end of her nightmare story.
So after such a horrendous journey without any recovery time it's little wonder that Radwańska really wasn’t in a fit state to compete. She lost 4-6, 5-7 to the little known Chinese competitor and for the second time in a row failed to proceed beyond the first round of the Olympic Games

Wimbledon - No. 3 Seed - June/July 2016
Arguably the best women's match was played out between Aga and the diminutive Dominika Cibulkova on Court 3 on 'manic' Monday. It can only be assumed that this match was made available on a public court so that their fans could see them outside of the cloistered Centre and No. 1 courts - but on the other hand - what were the Committee thinking of? The highest remaining female seed other than Serena Williams couldn't get a look in on the major show courts! She uncharacteristically (after a court change) made it onto Centre with the roof closed to keep the schedule up to date - even after the departure of the No.2 women's seed - Aga was still banished to the outside courts!

Zapytana o radę dla twórców marek, druga rakieta świata odpowiedziała bez zawahania: 'Praca, praca i jeszcze raz praca. Na pstryknięcie nie ma sukcesu w żadnej branży.'
'I'm thrilled to be able to represent Poland globally and that my surname is a benchmark for excellence' said Agnieszka Radwańska receiving her award. Asked how she achieved her personal best, the no. 2 tennis player in the world had no hesitation is adding 'Work, work and more work. You can't just snap your fingers and expect success in any profession/industry.'

New No.4 Radwanska Conquers Shenzhen

SHENZHEN, China - A day after securing a return to World No.4 - just in time for a Top 4 seed at the Australian Open - Agnieszka Radwańska won the 18th WTA title of her career at the Shenzhen Open. By reaching the final at the International-level event, Radwańska secured herself of passing Maria Sharapova for No.4 on the WTA Rankings, which guarantees her a coveted Top 4 seed in Melbourne.
And as if that weren't enough, the No.1-seeded Pole played near-flawless tennis to win the title on Saturday afternoon, cruising past Alison Riske in the final in an hour and 16 minutes, 6-3, 6-2. "I think Alison was really playing solid tennis today," Radwańska said. "She has a very powerful game from the baseline - I was really struggling from the baseline. I was really in a lot of trouble there. "But my serve really helped me today. Also in the deciding points I was a little bit better, and I think that's why the score was the way it was - it made it look easier than the actual match was."
Radwańska has now won 22 of 26 matches since the US Open, picking up her 15th through 18th WTA titles at Tokyo [Pan Pacific], Tianjin, the WTA Finals and Shenzhen. She's now 18-7 in WTA finals. The former World No.2 is hoping to come back to Shenzhen - and not just to defend the title.
"It was my first time here, but I actually didn't have much time to see the city. I came here pretty late. Each night I was enjoying different dinners, but didn't have much time to enjoy the city. "So I think because of that, I really have to come back here to Shenzhen!"
Radwańska will now head to Sydney for one last round of matches before the Australian Open.
"It's the beginning of the year, so we're all fresh compared to the end of the year. I'm feeling good," Radwańska commented. "Also I have a bye there, so I'll have a couple of days off right now."

Agnieszka Radwańska to pierwszy kandydat Polskiego-Sportu.pl na Najlepszego Sportowca Roku, którego sylwetkę poznacie już dzisiaj. Zanim przejdziemy jednak do głównej zainteresowanej, przypomnijmy, że na najlepszą polską tenisistkę i 19 innych nominowanych do 25 grudnia możecie głosować TUTAJ.
Agnieszka Radwańska to najlepsza polska tenisistka, która nieprzerwanie od 2008 roku reprezentuje Polskę na najwyższym światowym poziomie w rywalizacji tenisistek. Urodzona w Krakowie 6 marca 1989r. zawodniczka ma na swoim koncie już 17 turniejowych zwycięstw, z czego kolejne 3 dołożyła w niedawno zakończonym sezonie. W 2012 roku po wimbledońskim finale zanotowała najwyższe zajmowane miejsce w rankingu WTA, kiedy przez kilka tygodni okupowała pozycję wice liderki rankingu. W ubiegłorocznym Plebiscycie Polskiego-Sportu Radwańska znalazła się poza czołową „10”, czy w tym roku stać ją na końcowe zwycięstwo? Nic, bez waszych głosów!
Chyba nikt w lutym, czy maju nie przypuściłby sytuacji, że Agnieszka Radwańska pod koniec 2015 roku mogłaby walczyć o tytuł Najlepszego Sportowca Roku. Oprócz nieoficjalnego mistrzostwa świata par mieszanych, wywalczonego wraz z Jerzym Janowiczem w australijskim Perth, rezultaty Polki osiągane w przeciągu kilku pierwszych miesięcy sezonu pozostawiały wiele do życzenia, a jej pozycja w rankingu WTA z każdym tygodniem znacząco słabła.
Z odsieczą dla krakowianki przyszedł jednak ulubiony sezon na trawie, który przyniósł długo wyczekiwane efekty w grze Polki, trenowane przez jakiś czas z jedną z najlepszych tenisistek w historii – Martiną Navratilovą. Półfinał Wimbledonu z pasjonującym pojedynkiem z Garbine Muguruzą potwierdził powrót Agnieszki do ścisłej światowej czołówki i ponownie rozbudził apetyty na spore sukcesy w wykonaniu najlepszej polskiej tenisistki.
Po kilkutygodniowym odpoczynku, tenisistki powróciły do rywalizacji za oceanem, a w cyklu US Open Series Radwańska zaliczyła sporo solidnych występów, notując kilka ćwierćfinałów i półfinałów. W imprezie najważniejszej jakim był wielkoszlemowy US Open ponownie nie poszło jej jednak najlepiej…
Po kolejnej krótkiej przerwie przyszedł czas na ostatni akord sezonu, czyli tournee po Azji. Radwańska zaprezentowała w nim bajeczną formę, imponując stylem na każdym kroku. Dzięki turniejowym zwycięstwom w Tokio i Tianjinie i półfinale w Pekinie, w wielkim stylu po raz siódmy z rzędu zakwalifikowała się do kończącego sezon turnieju Masters. W Singapurze po dwóch porażkach w fazie grupowej, w spotkaniu z Simoną Halep była o 2 piłki od odpadnięcia z dalszej rywalizacji, jednak powstała jak feniks z popiołu i przy pomocy Marii Szarapowej w fantastyczny sposób zameldowała się w półfinale.
Po kolejnym fenomenalnym spotkaniu z Hiszpanką Garbine Muguruzą, Radwańska po raz pierwszy w historii stanęła przed szansą wywalczenia tytułu MASTERS, który byłby zarazem największym triumfem w karierze 26-latki z Krakowa.
W finale po kolejnym pasjonującym i bardzo emocjonującym pojedynku z Czeszką Petrą Kvitovą Radwańska stała się królową Singapuru i najlepszą tenisistką sezonu 2015! Polka potwierdziła, że charakteryzuje ją ogromny hart ducha i wola walki. To wszystko mimo nie najlepszego startu doprowadziło ją do ogromnego końcowego triumfu, który miejmy nadzieję otworzy Polce drogę do kolejnych wielkich sukcesów na czele z wielkoszlemowym zwycięstwem!
Wszystko to zatem jednoznacznie wskazuje, że tytuł Najlepszego Sportowca Roku wg czytelników Polskiego-Sportu należy się Radwańskiej nie mniej niż pozostałej „19” pretendentów do tego tytułu. Swój głos na swojego kandydata możecie oddać TUTAJ.

Personal note - I do hope it is Kraków - my mother's home time and one of the most beautiful places on earth - congratulations Aga!
