Aga post-tennis!

Having completed the translations (14th June 2019) on this page and covered the much-heralded 'Benefis' held on 21st May 2019 I have concluded my personal tribute to Agnieszka Radwańska's phenomenal career and the immediate aftermath of her decision to withdraw from professional tennis. Thank you for letting me participate invisibly in your life for so many years. Farewell Aga, I will miss you.

Former WTA World No.2 Agnieszka Radwanska has become a mother, and shared the first photos of her son Jakub.

Agnieszka Radwańska has become a mother, and shared the first photos of her son Jakub on her Instagram on Monday.

The former WTA World No.2, who notably reached the 2012 final at Wimbledon, announced that she was pregnant in January, posting on Instagram when she said: "The time has come for a new stage in life." Husband Dawid Celt, who was involved in her tennis career as her hitting partner, was the first to confirm the safe arrival of the couple's son. "Jakub is already with us," he posted on Twitter with a photo of a tiny hand. Urszula Radwańska, her sister and current WTA World No.266, has also reacted to the news. "I became an aunt. Congratulations to the parents," she said.

Radwańska, meanwhile, had documented her pregnancy on Instagram, declaring last Wednesday on the pair's wedding anniversary: "The last anniversary with just the two of us." She retired from the professional game in 2018, having won 20 WTA Tour titles.

Radwanska named latest Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen Legend Ambassador

With exactly 30 days to go until the first edition of the Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen, former champion Agnieszka Radwanska has been announced as the tournament's latest Legend Ambassador.

- SHENZHEN, China - Former champion Agnieszka Radwańska has been announced as the latest Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen Legend Ambassador.
- Friday's announcement welcoming the former World No. 2 to the field comes exactly 30 days out from the first edition of the tour's annual season-ending event in China.

"The WTA Finals will always be super special to me because it is the biggest title of my career. Tennis is my passion and I am so happy to be able to give back to the sport through this role as a Legend Ambassador for the first-ever Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen," Radwańska said. "I have always played well in China and my Chinese fans have been some of the most supportive throughout my career, so I am very excited to be going to Shenzhen to see everyone and be part of the WTA's most competitive tournament of the season."

Making it all the way to the Wimbledon final against Serena Williams in 2012, Radwańska was the first Polish player to reach a Grand Slam singles final in the Open Era, and won her biggest career title at the WTA Finals in Singapore four years ago. Aside from that Grand Slam result, she also advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open twice, the quarterfinals of the French Open on one occasion, and was a regular contender in the second week of the US Open. With 20 WTA titles to her name, Radwańska announced her retirement at the close of the 2018 season after 13 years on tour. In addition to capturing the WTA Finals at Singapore in 2015, Radwanska collected three noteworthy titles at the Premier Mandatory level – the China Open in Beijing in 2011 and 2016, and the Miami Open in 2012.

Her other titles in China came at the WTA International level, at Tianjin in 2015 and Shenzhen in 2016. Lauded as one of the most creative players of her generation, Radwańska earned the nickname "Ninja" for her deft skills and imaginative style of play. She was also voted the WTA Fan Favorite for six consecutive years. "The WTA Finals will always be super special to me because it is the biggest title of my career. The WTA Legend Ambassador program is an integral initiative by the WTA and Gemdale Sports to bring fans greater opportunities to interact with some of the greatest names in women's tennis during the eight-day tournament from Oct. 27 – Nov. 3, through community and fan engagement activities, tennis clinics and more. Last week, former World No. 1 and Hall of Famer Martina Hingis was announced as the first Legends Ambassador.

"Aga has always been so popular among the fans in China and I am pleased that we are able to welcome her back to the WTA family in her capacity as a Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen Legend Ambassador," said Fabrice Chouquet, Managing Director of WTA Asia-Pacific and Co-Tournament Director of the Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen. Radwanska outlines her retirement plans: 'Tennis will always be in my blood'

Former Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska has no regrets about calling time on her playing career but wants to stay connected to the sport.

LONDON, Great Britain, 6th July 2019– Agnieszka Radwańska plans to keep a close association with the WTA after retiring from professional tennis.

The 30-year-old former World No.2 announced her decision to quit playing in November 2018 but was at Wimbledon to receive a special collage from WTA Chairman and CEO Steve Simon this week.

Although she will no longer feature on the professional circuit, that does not mean that she will become a stranger as she aims to retain her bond with the sport. "I just want to slow down a bit, enjoy not having so much pressure or stress, but of course I'm always going to be around tennis," she said. "It's been my life and it's always going to be in my blood. "I'm not going to have as many weeks on the tour as before, but it's nice to be back around tennis, broadcasting or commentating, and I'm always working to help build tennis in Poland, to help younger players."

While she is not regretting her decision to quit playing, she did reflect upon some fond memories, and in particular her push to the final of Wimbledon 2012, where she was beaten by Serena Williams over three sets. "I've so many great memories, especially the final here – I remember it as if it was a week ago," she reflected. "It's always nice to be back, especially here. "I was talking about my first time at Wimbledon to some friends, about playing on Courts 2 and 3 – and some matches on Court 17, which doesn't even exist anymore because it's a restaurant! "Thirteen years in a row on tour sounds like a long time but the time flies and it's over. It was a very hard decision for me, but I think the timing was right. I could no longer play at the level I was used to. "I'm happy to be back here on the courts and see friends playing great tennis and still enjoy the sport. It's fun to be here and see everything from a different perspective."

In her wtatennis.com column, Martina Navratilova pays tribute to the Wimbledon finalist, who was such a favorite of fans. Agnieszka Radwańska was a contradiction - she was the most imaginative and creative player of her generation, and yet so risk-averse that she had a really hard time trying anything new on the practice court. Tennis fans will remember Radwańska for playing shots that others wouldn't have even thought of - sometimes on purpose and sometimes when reacting to an unusual situation. In an era of bam-bam tennis, Radwańska created so much with her head and her hands, playing tennis on the fly, and just letting it happen. What people might not have realised was that Radwańska - who has announced her retirement - was not one to venture out of her comfort zone.

She didn't want to miss, not even in practice. That was why she didn't like to hit the ball hard when she felt she couldn't control it. It's funny because when she practised she was a Steady Eddie. She didn't do anything special. I worked with her for a few months and, on the practice court, she was happy playing it safe. When most players practise, they are at their most imaginative and creative - they do stuff that they wouldn't normally even try on a match court. Radwańska was the total opposite. In matches, she would hit shots on the fly that she had never done in practice. When she had to be, she was the most imaginative player there was. In matches, Radwańska would play the shot of the day, the shot of the month, the shot of the year. I think she made the highlight reel more often than any other player on the WTA Tour. She was quick on her feet and quick with her mind; she would just come up with stuff. She was hitting shots that people didn't expect, often even surprising herself. Then there would be times when her shot selection would not be ideal but so many times she would bail herself out by coming up with magic. Given her intolerance for risk, that's really peculiar, when you think about it.

One of the reasons for Radwańska's popularity, I think, was that fans could relate to how she played. She didn't really have a big weapon. She wasn't overpowering opponents. Playing against was more like death by a 1000 cuts. She would just pick players apart. But fans could relate to most of her shots. Basically, Radwańska played club tennis at a very high pro level. That's not disparaging her - au contraire. Spectators could imagine themselves possibly hitting most of those shots and they certainly could admire them. In a time of power tennis, she really stood out with her variety and shotmaking. She was playing a kind of old-school tennis. Looking back at her career, you would probably say she overachieved - it's hard to accomplish as much as she did without any weapons, though you could say that perhaps she could have hit the ball a little harder.

Tennis will miss Radwańska a lot as she was a fan favourite for so many years. But these days one can always watch the shots back on YouTube. If you get nostalgic, you can see all that magic stuff all over again. My favourite shot of hers was when she was covering the line at the net, and was about to hit a forehand volley. But then the ball struck the top of the net and she had to improvise. As she was moving hard to her right, she had to spin backwards all the way around and - this was a completely blind shot - hit a backhand volley into the open court for a winner. Improvising on the fly with a shot she never hit before - how fun is that? Agnieszka Radwańska will always be fondly remembered by the fans as one of a kind, and there aren't too many who can say that. We all wish her a happy life after tennis.

Krakowianka pojawiła się w Tauron Arenie w towarzystwie swojej najlepszej przyjaciółki Caroline Woźniacki. Nie było z nią niestety kontuzjowanej Angelique Kerber, która rano zdecydowała, że nie przyjedzie na imprezę. Po kontuzji kostki odniesionej w Madrycie stara się dojść do siebie przed Rolandem Garrosem (od 26 maja).

Unfortunately, owing to injury, Angélique Kerber had that morning decided that she was unable to attend the party. "Angie chciała być z nami, ale nie mogła przerwać rehabilitacji" – wytłumaczyła koleżankę Agnieszka. I razem z "Caro" oraz innymi gośćmi zapewniła ponad 10-tysięcznej publiczności moc wspaniałych atrakcji.

- "Angie wanted to be with us, but she couldn't interrupt her rehabilitation" explained Agnieszka. Together with "Caro" and many other guests she created a memorable entertainment for the 10,000 spectator audience.

Z Dunką wspominały, jak wszystko się zaczęło i dlaczego tak dobrze się kończy. – Wielki tenis nie zepsuł naszych relacji – podkreślały tenisistki. Przypominały, jak podczas pierwszych dziecięcych turniejów bawiły się między drzewami w policjantów i złodziei. Jak później wspólnie doszły do finału juniorskiego French Open, a w 2016 roku w Azji grały ze sobą trzy tygodnie z rzędu. – Częściej niż na treningach. Karolina wygrała w Tokio, ja w Wuhan i w Pekinie. Lepsza musiała postawić kolację. Potrafiłyśmy oddzielić życie prywatne od zawodowego – cieszyła się starsza z sióstr Radwańskich.

- Together with the girl from Denmark, the reminisced about how it all started and why it is ending happily. "Great competitive tennis did not impact negatively on our relationship" stressed both tennis players. The recalled how during their first junior tournaments they would play 'cops and robbers' amongst the the trees. Later they both reached the Junior Finals of the French Open and in 2016 faced each other across three times across the net during the Asian 'swing'. "That was more frequent than when we trained together! Caroline won in Tokio and I triumohed in Wuhan and Peking (Beijing). Who ever won paid for dinner. We were able to separate our private and professional lives" the elder Radwańska sister remembered happily.

Isia jeszcze raz rozliczała się publicznie z kariery. – Osiągnęłam tyle, ile jako nastolatka nigdy bym sobie nie wyobraziła. Czuję się fantastycznie, ciągle kocham i oglądam tenis, ale widzę też, jak bardzo wszystko dookoła się zmienia i jak bardzo idzie do przodu. Zdrowie? Może za jakiś czas powiem, że czuję się lepiej. Ostatnie 25 lat cały czas jeszcze we mnie siedzi. Siedzi i czasami jeszcze boli – dodała. Trening zawodowca i "Taniec z gwiazdami" to jednak zupełnie inne aktywności.

- Isia once again reiterated her career achievements. "I achieved so much that as a teeneager I couldn't have imagined possible. I feel fantastic and continue to love and watch tennis, but also see how everything around me is changing and speeding forward. My health? Maybe in time I'll be able to say that I feel better. The last 25 years are still dictating my lifestyle. Dictating and still occasionally recreating the pain" she added. "Professional training and "Dancing with the Stars" are two very different disciplines and activities."

- Caroline, who has been diagnosed with degenerative arthritis, sympathises with and understands her friends decision. "I remember well when I was diagnosed. I was in bed at the time and we discussed the subject for over two hours. Physical strength in this sport is of paramount importance" she assessed the situation.

Razem z Agą rozegrała pokazowego miksta z Łukaszem Kubotem i Marcinem Matkowskim. Punkty zdobywali w nim też m.in. Jakub Błaszczykowski (na stojąco, po kontuzji nie może biegać) i Wojciech Fibak.

- An unusual 'mixed doubles' then took place featuring Aga, Łukasz and Marcin with additional support from Jakub Błaszczykowski who was unable to run due to an injury and veteran Wojciech Fibak.

Potem były zabawy, koncerty i gratulacje. Także od prezydenta RP Andrzeja Dudy, który wręczył Isi kwiaty i podziękował jej za wspaniałą karierę. - To bardzo poruszający moment. Pamiętam taki mecz, gdy mała jeszcze Agnieszka wygrała finał juniorskiego turnieju Wimbledonu. Nie jestem znawcą tenisa, ale pomyślałem sobie, że to tylko juniorski sukces, to się zdarza, a jak przyjdzie czas gry w seniorach, to trzeba cudu, aby się wybić. Niedawno rozmawiałem z naszym znakomitym skoczkiem narciarskim Kamilem Stochem i on powiedział mi, że w światowej czołówce każdej dyscypliny o sukcesach decyduje przede wszystkim głowa. To, z jakiego domu człowiek wyszedł, jak ukształtowała go rodzina. Nie byłoby tak wielkiego sukcesu, gdyby nie wsparcie rodziców, siostry Urszuli, męża Dawida Celta. Zrobiliście państwo wielką rzecz dla Polski. Agnieszka była dla Polski takim cudem. Weszła na szczyt w tak ważnej i ekskluzywnej dyscyplinie na świecie – powiedział prezydent.

- Then the fun started with concerts and congratulations. President of RP Andrzej Duda presented Isia with a bouquet of flowers and thanked her for her superb career. "That was a very moving moment. I remember well, when tiny little Agnieszka won the Junior Wimbledon title. I don't know too much about tennis but remember thinking that I was witnessing something more special that a Junior Wimbledon success but acknowledged that to shine like that on the senior circuit would require something little short of a miracle. Not long ago I was talking to our phenomenal ski jumper Kamil Stoch who told me that those who reach the top world rankings in any sport had to start by having a good head on their shoulders irrespective of their past domestic life or financial circumstances. Aga wouldn't have been able to achieve so much without the support of her parents, her sister Urszula, her husband Dawid. Collectively you all gave a beautiful gift to Poland. Agnieszka was indeed a type of miracle for Poland. She scaled the heights in such an importantly prestigious and exclusive discipline in the world." said the President.

Potem podkreślił też związek zawodniczki z Polską i to, że choć mogłaby mieszkać w każdym miejscu na świecie, nigdzie się nie wyprowadziła. Tu, co zawsze podkreślał jej tata Robert, który de facto wymyślił córkę dla tenisa, czuje się u siebie i tu płaci podatki. To jest taki najbardziej praktyczny i logiczny patriotyzm. - Jako Krakus cieszę się, że ten benefis odbywa się w Krakowie. Jest pani wspaniałą dziewczyną – podkreśliła głowa państwa.

- He then praised the competitor with her link to Poland, particularly the fact that although she could choose to live anywhere in the world she never moved out. At this point her father, Robert, stressed that he had, de facto, invented a tennis daughter who felt at home here and pays her taxes here. "This is really the truest, most practical and logical manner in which to prove her loyalty and patriotism - as a Krakus (native born and bred in Kraków) I am delighted that this Benefit is being held in Kraków. You are truly remarkable." proclaimed the Head of State.

W uznaniu zasług Radwańskiej minister sportu i turystyki Witold Bańka w imieniu premiera Mateusza Morawieckiego odznaczył urodzoną w Krakowie tenisistkę medalem 100-lecia Odzyskania Niepodległości.

- In recognition of Radwańska's meritorious service the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Witold Bańka decorated the Kraków born tennis player with the medal commemorating the 100th anniversary of Poland's Independence on behalf of Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki.

Podczas widowiska nastąpił tylko jeden mały zgrzyt – wspomnienie sytuacji z niedalekiej przeszłości, gdy Agnieszce nie przyznano honorowego obywatelstwa Krakowa. – Było mi przykro... – powiedziała nasza mistrzyni. Nam też i chyba wszystkim kibicom też. Od werdyktu samorządowców minęło kilka tygodni, a wciąż trudno zrozumieć, dlaczego polityka w tak absurdalny i brutalny sposób wpływa na te kwestie…

- During the spectacle there was just a hint rancour - a situation that had arisen in the not so distant past, that of Agnieszka not being offered the honorary citizenship of Kraków. "That did upset me" stated our queen of the courts. As it did us and surely her many fans. It is now several weeks since the Local Government delivered their verdict and it is difficult to understand why politics should have such an absurd impact on issues such as these ...

Głos łamał jej się tego dnia wielokrotnie. Agnieszka Radwańska pożegnała się we wtorek ze swoimi fanami. Obszerna relacja z benefisu w piątek o godzinie 20:35 w TVP 1, TVPSPORT.PL i w naszej aplikacji. W listopadzie zeszłego roku najlepsza polska tenisistka ogłosiła zakończenie kariery, a we wtorek w Krakowie odbył się pożegnalny benefis na którym pojawiło się blisko 10 tysięcy fanów. Decyzja Radwańskiej dla wielu była zaskoczeniem. Ale nie dla Caroline Woźniacki, wielkiej przyjaciółki Agnieszki z kortów tenisowych, która pojawiła się we wtorek w Krakowie.

- Her voice faltered on several occasions as Agnieszka Radwańska said farewell to her fans last Tuesday, Extensive coverage of the Benefit on Friday at 20:35 will be available on TVP 1, TVPSPORT.PL and on our app. In November of last year, the greatest Polish female tennis player announced the end of her career; on Tuesday close on 10,000 fans attended her farewell Benefit. Radwańska's decision caught many unawares. But not Caroline Woźniacki, her great friend from the tennis world, who came to Kraków last Tuesday.

W jakich okolicznościach się poznałyśmy? Ja nie pamiętam, co jadłam rano na śniadanie, a co dopiero takie historie sprzed 20 lat. Kontakt miałyśmy od dzieciństwa i zawsze dobrze się bawiłyśmy. Gorzej było na korcie. Aga dawała skróty, loby, trzeba było się nabiegać – mówiła ze śmiechem Woźniacki siedząc w trakcie konferencji tuż obok Radwańskiej.

- "How did we meet? I can't remember what I had for breakfast let alone a memory from 20 years ago. We were childhood friends and always enjoyed playing together. It was worse on court. Aga drop-shotted, lobbed, I had to run a lot" smiled Woźniacki as she sat close to Radwańska during their joint conference,

Poznałyśmy się w innych czasach, przed erą smartfonów. Często bawiłyśmy się w policjantów i złodziei. Najważniejsze jest to, że przez całą karierę udało nam się oddzielać sprawy prywatne od zawodowych i przez całą karierę byłyśmy w dobrych stosunkach – wspominała Radwańska.

- "We got to know each other in another world, pre-smartphones. We often played cops and robbers. Most importantly, throughout both our careers we were fortunate to be able to separate our private and professional lives and throughout our careers retained our friendship" reminisced Radwańska.

Carolina jako jedna z pierwszych osób dowiedziała się o tym, że Polka kończy karierę. – Aga zadzwoniła do mnie chwilę przed ogłoszeniem tej decyzji. Zastała mnie w łóżku i porozmawiałyśmy sobie ze dwie godziny. Jej decyzja nie była dla mnie zaskoczeniem, bo wiedziałam że już wcześniej miała takie myśli – mówiła Woźniacki, która też przecież ostatnio zmagała się z problemami zdrowotnymi. Rozmawiając z dziennikarzami dziewczyny często wchodziły sobie w słowo, przejmując narrację, a ta nadal była płynna. Widać, że rozumieją się bez słów, ale to "Isia" ma dużo lepszą pamięć. – Kiedyś w Azji grałyśmy trzy razy z rzędu w ciągu trzech tygodni – mówiła Polka, a Woźniacki robiła wielkie oczy jakby faktycznie tego nie pamiętała. – I kto wygrał? – dopytywała.

- Caroline was one of the very first to know that the Pole was to end her career. "Aga rang me just before she announced her decision publicly. She caught me in bed and we talked for two hours. I wasn't completely taken by surprise because she had already voiced such thoughts earlier" said Woźniacki, who herself has recently been beset with health issues. Throughout the interview the girls often finished each others sentences, allowing the narrative to flow. It was apparent that they understand each other without needing to explain but Isia apparently has better recall. "On one occasion we played each other three times in three weeks on the Asian circuit" said the Pole whilst Woźniacki pulled faces as if she really did not remember "who won?" she kept asking.

Nie brakowało wspomnień pozakortowych. – Zabawa na bankietach? Przy okazji turniejów tenisowych trudno było szaleć, bo zazwyczaj na drugi dzień był mecz, najczęściej rano. Co innego imprezy prywatne, gdzie nie było kamer i aparatów. Nagrania stamtąd są tylko na naszych telefonach – mówiła Radwańska.

- And there was no lack of happy memories off the court. "Fun at the official banquets? It was difficult to let our hair down because usually we would be scheduled for an early match the following day. Private parties, on the other hand, where there were no cameras or reporters, are another matter. The only proof of their existence is on our telephones" mused Radwańska.

Teraz ma więcej czasu na odpoczynek, na to, by robić to, na co ma ochotę. – Pierwszą rzeczą jaką mogłam zrobić inaczej niż w trakcie kariery to sposób w jaki spędziłam święta Bożego Narodzenia. Mogłam usiąść, cieszyć się czasem i odpocząć. Wreszcie robię rzeczy na które nigdy nie miałam czasu. Nadal np. lubię podróżować, ale teraz nie muszę zabierać ze sobą dziesięć rakiet. Choć fakt, że będę tęsknić za atmosferą turniejów – opisywała.

- Now there is more time for resting to be able to do whatever takes her fancy. "The first thing I was able to do differently outside of my career was how I spent Christmas. I was able to sit down, relax, choose my own pace and rest. At last I could do things I never had time for previously. I love travelling and now I don't have to lug 10 tennis rackets around with me everywhere I go. But, and it's a fact, I will miss and long for the atmosphere of the tournaments" she elaborated.

Długa kariera dała jej się we znaki. Radwańska jest dobrym dowodem na to, jak potrafi wyniszczyć zawodowy sport. – Ze stopą dziś jest nieco lepiej, ale teraz dochodzą inne rzeczy. Z jednej strony jest więc lepiej, ale z drugiej – 25 lat grania ciągle wychodzi. Myślę, że na pytanie o samopoczucie tak na dobre będę mogła odpowiedzieć za rok lub dwa – przekonywała.

- A long career has impacted on her visibly. Radwańska is a good example of how professional sport can drain physical resources. "My foot is recovering slowly, but now I am aware of other limitations. From one point of view then, things are better from another not so and the results playing over 25 years are now manifesting themselves. I think I'll be able to answer the question of my well-being more positively in a year or two" she cajoled.

Na tenis patrzy teraz okiem kibica. – Nie zrywam się o 4 czy o 5 w nocy, by obejrzeć transmisję, ale nadal oglądam sporo meczów. Przecież po kortach na całym świecie wciąż biegają moje przyjaciółki – mówiła. – Cieszę się, że na największych turniejach na świecie coraz częściej pojawiają się polskie nazwiska. Mamy Igę Świątek, Huberta Hurkacza, a i za nimi są kolejni, którzy pną się do góry. Fajnie, że polski tenis żyje – dodawała była wiceliderka rankingu WTA. Nie da się namówić na powrót. – Uważam, że skończyłam w odpowiednim momencie. Owszem, dość dużo czasu zajęło mi podjęcie tej decyzji, ale dziś nie czuję się na siłach, by wracać. Jeśli miałabym wrócić to tylko po to, by grać na światowym poziomie. W innym wypadku to nie ma sensu. Jestem realistką. Tenis w ostatnich latach poszedł mocno do przodu i po prostu już siebie tam nie widzę – przekonywała.

- She now looks on tennis through the eyes of a fan. "I don't get up at 4am or 5am anymore to watch a match, but I still manage to see several. Many of my friends are still competing all over the world." she said. "I'm really delighted to see more and more Polish surnames at the great tournaments globally. We now have Iga Świątek, Hubert Hurkacz with others following who are striving to reach the top echelons. It's great that Polish tennis is rejuvenated" added the former WTA no. 2. She won't be drawn into an attempted return "I believe I finished at an appropriate moment. Granted, it took me some time to make the final decision, but in all honesty, today, I don't feel as if I could make a comeback. If I were to return then it would only be at a world class level. Other than that it doesn't make any sense to even attempt such a notion. I'm a realist. Tennis has advanced exponentially in the last few years and, in all honesty, I just don't see myself as part of the new order." she explained.

W pewnym momencie na kort został zaproszony Wojciech Fibak, który pierwszym dotknięciem piłki zdobył punkt. A i potem nie brakowało emocji, w pewnym momencie na kort wszedł nawet… Błaszczykowski. - Radwańska's farewell attracted a number of celebrities - Robert Korzeniowski, Mariusz Czerkawski, Otylia Jędrzejczak, Jakub Błaszczykowski and Marcin Wasilewski. The fans cheered on the red team (YouTube) of Radwańska partnering Kubot versus Woźniacki and Marcin Matkowski. At one point Wojciech Fibak was invited to join them on court and immediately won a point on his first attempt. Odeszłam w odpowiednim momencie – powiedziała Agnieszka Radwańska, która dzisiaj w krakowskiej Tauron Arenie pożegna się z kibicami. W benefisie najlepszej w historii polskiej tenisistki nie weźmie udziału – z powodów zdrowotnych – awizowana Angélique Kerber. Relacja z benefisu krakowianki w piątek (24 maja) od godz. 20:35 w TVP1, aplikacji mobilnej i TVPSPORT.PL.

- "I left at the right time" says Agnieszka Radwańska, who will tonight bid farewell to her fans in the Tauron Arena, Kraków. Owing to on-going health issues, Angélique Kerber has advised that she will be unable to attend the Benefit being thrown for the greatest ever tennis player in Polish history.

Szkoda, że Andzi nie będzie tutaj. Byłyśmy w stałym kontakcie. Wiem, że robiła wszystko co mogła, ale nie mogła przerwać rehabilitacji – wyjaśniła Radwańska. Kerber, reprezentująca Niemcy, tenisistka o polskich korzeniach, przygotowuje się do startu na paryskim turnieju Rolanda Garrosa. Podczas benefisu Kerber wraz z Radwańską i inną zawodniczką polskiego pochodzenia Carolone Woźniacki, miały zagrać pokazowy mecz. W tej sytuacji nieco zmieniono scenariusz – i zamiast debla rozegrany zostanie mikst z udziałem polskich tenisistów – Łukasza Kubota i Mariusza Matkowskiego.

- "It's a great shame that Angie won't be here. We've been in constant contact with each other. I know that she did everything she could to be able to attend, but she can't really break off her rehabilitation process" explained Radwańska. Kerber, who represents Germany, and has Polish roots, is preparing herself for the French Open Grand Slam at Roland Garros. It had originally been planned that Radwańska, Kerber and Danish Caroline Woźniacki who also has Polish roots were to have performed a 'debut exhibition match'. Owing to the change in circumstances this is now being replaced by a mixed doubles with Agnieszka and Caroline being partnered with Łukasz Kubot i Mariusz Matkowski.

W miksta rzadko grałam, więc fajnie, że dzisiaj będę miała okazję – przyznała Radwańska na konferencji prasowej, w której udział wzięła także Woźniacki. Obydwie tenisistki przyjaźnią się od wielu lat.

"I rarely play mixed doubles, so it's nice that the opportunity to do so has materialised" admitted Radwańska at the press conference which also included Woźniacki's participation. Both tennis players have been great friends for many years.

Cieszę, się, że mogę tutaj być. A Agą poznałyśmy się, jak miałem siedem lat. Na pewno przyjaźń ułatwił nam fakt, że mogłyśmy rozmawiać po polsku. Agnieszka pierwsza zaczęła grać w Tourze, jak chciałem jej dorównać i dołączyłam tam po roku. Na korcie była zawsze rywalizacja, a po meczu chodziliśmy razem na kolację. Ta, która wygrała, musiała ją postawić. Przykro, że Agnieszki już nie ma w Tourze, teraz muszę stawiać sobie sama – zażartowała reprezentująca Danię Woźniacki, która czeka start w turnieju Rolanda Garrosa.

- "I'm glad that I'm able to be here. Aga and I met when we were seven years old. I'm certain that the fact that we could both speak Polish drew us closer together. Agnieszka was the first to play on tour and I wanted to equal her achievements and joined the tour after twelve months. On court we were always rivals, but after the match we went off to dinner together. Whoever won had to pay! It's a real shame that Agnieszka's no longer on the tour, now I have to pay for myself" joked the Dane Woźniacki, who is also preparing for Roland Garros.

Miałem miesiąc przerwy z powodu kontuzji łydki i musiałam wycofać się z ostatnich turniejów. Forma się buduje, jutro lecę do Paryża i mam nadzieję, że pójdzie mi dobrze – powiedziała.

- I had a month off with a calf injury and had to withdraw from the last few tournaments. I'm getting back into shape and tomorrow am flying out to Paris where I hope I'll have a good tournament" she added.

Radwańska z kolei zadeklarowała, że nie planuje już wznowienia kariery. – Zakończyłam ją w odpowiednim momencie. Nie czuję się na siłach, aby wracać. Wychodzę z założenia, że albo gram na najwyższym poziomie, albo to nie ma sensu. Jestem realistką i wiem, jaki światowy tenis poszedł do przodu i ja już siebie w nim nie widzę – przyznała. Radwańska zaznaczyła także, że reprezentowanie Polski to był dla niej wielki zaszczyt, choć jej trzy starty na igrzyskach olimpijskich nie przyniosły sukcesu. – Czasem jak się bardzo chce, to nie wychodzi. Grałam dla reprezentacji przez dziesięć lat. Udało nam się w Pucharze Federacji awansować do grupy światowej, z czego byłam bardzo dumna, bo widziałem, jaką drogę trzeba było przejść, aby się tam dostać – przypomniała.

- Radwańska on the other hand has declared that she is not planning a comeback. "I ended my career at the right time. I don't feel I have the strength to make a comeback. I firmly believe that I could only return if I were able to play at the highest level or it makes no sense to try. I'm a realist and I know how world tennis has progressed in recent times and I don't see myself as part of it any more" she confessed. Radwańska added that whenever she represented Poland she felt it was a great honour despite failing at three successive Olympic Games. "Sometimes when you really want something so badly, nothing works for you. I participated in representing Poland for a decade. We achieved promotion to the World Group in the Federation Cup which made me very proud especially as I experienced to long hard road that it took to get there." she reminisced.

Niedawno Rada Miasta Krakowa zdecydowała, że nie przyzna urodzonej w tym mieście tenisistce honorowego obywatelstwa. Jednym z argumentów był m.in. młody wiek. Radwańska poproszona o skomentowanie tej decyzji powiedziała: – Było to dla mnie dość przykre. Wiek nie powinien mieć znaczenia. Poza tym pojawiły się względy związane z poglądami politycznymi mojego ojca. Takie aspekty nie powinny wchodzić w grę. Pożegnalny benefis Radwańskiej rozpocznie się o godzinie 18 w krakowskiej Tauron Arenie. Na trybunach ma zasiąść komplet widzów. Swoją obecność zapowiedział prezydent Andrzej Duda.

- Not so long ago the Local Government chose not to honour her with an honorary citizenship of the City of Kraków. One of the objections was her age. Asked for her opinion on the decision Radwańska said "It was quite a bitter disappointment. Age shouldn't be an influencing factor. Apparently there were additional reasons relating to the political views held by my father. That should never have been allowed to influence any decision concerning my achievements." The farewell Benefit will start at 18.00 hours in the Tauron Arena, Kraków. The event is a sell out and President Andrzej Duda has confirmed his attendance.

On the 14th of May Agnieszka appeared on tv.pl with her husband Dawid Celt to discuss what happens next and how it has been since she finished her tennis career so abruptly last year. As can be seen from the pictures, it was a nice informal chat in addition to promoting her forthcoming 'Benefit' to be held in Kraków on the 21st of May. The presenters tried to prise out some of the 'surprises' that they two would shower on each other - both remained tight-lipped leaving the presenters guessing and wild with excitement!

Agnieszka: Tennis was always the priority

30-latka udzieliła wywiadu Krzysztofowi Ibiszowi w programie "Demakijaż".

- The 30-year-old tennis star granted an interview to Krzysztof Ibiszów on the "Demakijaż" programme.

Agnieszka Radwańska pod koniec ubiegłego roku zakończyła karierę. Polka w trakcie wielu lat w tourze zapisała na swoim koncie aż dwadzieścia turniejowych zwycięstw, finał wielkoszlemowego Wimbledonu oraz wspięła się na drugą lokatę w światowej klasyfikacji.

- Agnieszka Radwańska ended her career towards the end of last year (2019). During her long and distinguished career she notched up 20 Major titles, reached the Final of the Grand Slam at Wimbledon and achieved the no. 2 spot in the official WTA listings.

Nękana kontuzjami 30-latka postanowiła rozpocząć nowy etap w życiu. Agnieszka w wywiadzie udzielonym Krzysztofowi Ibiszowi w programie "Demakijaż" zdradziła, że organizm odmówił jej posłuszeństwa, przez zbyt napięty grafik. Polka podróżowała z turnieju na turniej i nie potrafiła zrobić sobie przerwy:

- Persistent injuries during her career gave her the impetus to start a new stage in her life. In an interview granted to Krzysztof Ibiszów on the "Demakijaż" programme Agnieszka confessed that her body was no longer capable to responding to the demands of her sporting career and punishing travel routine which did not allow for any respite. The Pole travelled from tournament to tournament without an opportunity of an appropriate recovery schedule.

"Po wygranym turnieju było pytanie: co dalej, gdzie następny turniej, gdzie jedziemy, gdzie lecimy? Wszystko było "pod" tenis. Popełniłam błąd, że nie potrafiłam wypoczywać. Nie było regeneracji. To był mój błąd przez lata. A gdzieś na końcu była kumulacja. Po prostu nie potrafiłam. Dopiero tego się uczę, teraz to już umiem, ale… parę lat za późno."

- "After winning a tournament, there were endless questions, what next, where's the next tournament, where are we going, where are we flying? Everything came second to tennis. I made a big mistake by not factoring in sufficient rest and recovery time. There was no recuperation. That was my problem over many years. Then, towards the end, the cumulative effect defeated me. I'm only just beginning to uderstand this, now I know how, but ... a just a few years too late."

Agnieszka zdradziła również, że jej rodzice i dziadkowie musieli wiele poświęcić, żeby zostały z Ulą profesjonalnymi tenisistkami. W ich domu liczyła się każda złotówka:

- Agnieszka also revealed, that her parents and grandparents made many sacrifices to enable her and sister Ursula to become professional tennis players. Every penny earned is valued and not squandered.

"Trenowałyśmy z siostrą od piątego roku życia. Tenis zawsze był priorytetem. Gdy inne dzieci szły się bawić, ja miałam 20 minut na dotarcie do domu, obiad i jazdę na trening. Obiady jadło się czasem w drodze, w słoikach, zimne, niedobre. Mój ojciec powtarzał, że każda minuta to złotówka.

- "My sister and I started training from 5 years of age. Tennis was always the priority. Whereas other kids went off to play, I had 20 minutes to get home, eat and go out to train. Sometimes I ate whilst travelling to the training venue, food that had been stored in a jar, cold and unappetising, My father maintained that every minute equated to a złoty.

Za trenera nie trzeba było płacić, bo był nim ojciec. Ale najdroższe były wyjazdy. Do tego hala około 100 złotych za godzinę, a tych godzin trzeba było spędzić kilka codziennie. A jak wiemy, w turniejach juniorskich się nie zarabiało. Pożyczało się pieniądze nie raz. Jak się wracało z turnieju do Krakowa, to nie było na płatną autostradę, trzeba było jechać dookoła. Pomagał także dziadek, sprzedawał obrazy, dokładając praktycznie do każdego turnieju."

- There were no expenses to be paid for a trainer because our father took on that role. The greatest expense was the travelling. To use the facilities worked out about 100 złotys an hour and each day demanded several hours of practice. And, it is well known that Junior Tournaments do not offer monetary rewards. We had to borrow funding on several occasions. When we came back from a tournament we didn't use the pay as you drive motorways but had to skirt around them to avoid the additional expense. Grandad helped by selling his paintings which was a great practical help."

W niedzielę, 14 kwietnia, na promenadzie przy kortach tenisowych Klubu Sportowego Nadwiślan otwarta została TAURON Aleja Gwiazd Tenisa Kraków. Tablice z brązu z odciskami dłoni odsłonili: Agnieszka Radwańska, Wojciech Fibak, Magdalena Grzybowska oraz Mariusz Fyrstenberg. Ponadto odbył się także turniej tenisa dla dzieci.

- On Sunday, 14th of April, on the promenade alongside the Nadwiślan Sports Club tennis courts, the official Tauron Tennis Star Alley, Kraków was inaugurated. Bronze plaques bearing the palm imprints of Agnieszka Radwańska, Wojciech Fibak, Magdalena Grzybowska and Mariusz Fyrstenberg were unveiled. Running simultaneously was a tennis tournament for children.

W środę, 3 kwietnia, w krakowskim magistracie odbyła się konferencja prasowa zapowiadająca wyjątkowe wydarzenie sportowe - TAURON Aleję Gwiazd Tenisa Kraków 2019. Wzięli w niej udział Magdalena Grzybowska – gwiazda tenisa, Janusz Kozioł – pełnomocnik prezydenta Krakowa ds. rozwoju kultury fizycznej, Dorota Skotnicka - dyrektor Departamentu Turystyki i Sportu Urzędu Marszałkowskiego Województwa Małopolskiego oraz Sławomir Jachimowski – prezes Fundacji Aleja Gwiazd.

- On Wednesday, 3rd April, a Press Conference was held at the Kraków Magistrates to announce a unique sports event - the Tauron Tennis Stars Alley, Kraków 2019. Taking part were Magdalena Grzybowska, tennis star, Janusz Kozioł, diplomatic representative of Kraków's President for the development of Physical Culture, Dorota Skotnicka, director of the Marshal's Office of the Małopolska Region Department of Tourism and Sport and Sławomir Jachimowski, president of the Tennis Stars Alley Foundation.

Połączenie Alei Gwiazd z organizowanym dla dzieci turniejem tenisa to jest to, co najbardziej nas przekonało, aby zaangażować się w ten projekt. Cieszę się, że Aleja Gwiazd powstaje właśnie w Krakowie, w mieście, które wychowało jedne z największych gwiazd tenisa: Magdalenę Grzybowską czy Agnieszkę Radwańską oraz wielu innych sportowców – powiedział na konferencji Janusz Kozioł, pełnomocnik Prezydenta Miasta Krakowa ds. Rozwoju Kultury Fizycznej.

- "The combination of the Alley of the Stars with the tennis tournament organized for children is what most convinced us to get involved in this project. I'm really delighted that the Tennis Stars Alley has been projected for Kraków because this is the place that has nurtured our finest tennis stars whether is be Magdalena Grzybowska or Agnieszka Radwańska and many other athletes in other disciplines" announced Janusz Kozioł, diplomatic representative of Kraków's President for the development of Physical Culture

Mam nadzieję, że turniej tenisa dla dzieci organizowany przy okazji otwarcia Alei Gwiazd zapoczątkuje kolejny etap rozwoju polskiego tenisa, a z grona tych dzieci w przyszłości wyrosną następcy najlepszych polskich tenisistów – dodał pełnomocnik.

- "I sincerely hope that the chance joint venture of the Children's Tennis Tournament at the opening of the Tennis Stars Alley will in time bear fruit and produce the next generation of world class tennis stars." added the diplomatic representative.

Aleja Gwiazd Tenisa jest wyjątkowym, ogólnopolskim projektem sportowo–edukacyjno–społecznym mającym na celu popularyzację polskiego sportu, a także przybliżenie sylwetek zasłużonych dla sportu osób w jednej z najpopularniejszych dyscyplin sportu jaką jest tenis. Organizatorzy pragną uhonorować i przypomnieć Polakom oraz całemu światu sylwetki wybitnych polskich tenisistów i tenisistek oraz podkreślić rolę Polski na sportowej mapie świata.

- "Tennis Stars Alley is a unique, national sports, educational and social project aimed at popularizing Polish sport, as well as encouraging deserving candidates to participate in one of the most popular sports - tennis. The organizers want to honour and remind Polish people and the whole world of the profiles of outstanding Polish tennis players and highlight the role of Poland on the sporting global map."

Projekt polega na utworzeniu Alei Gwiazd Tenisa, w której zostaną odsłonięte tablice z brązu upamiętniające najwybitniejszych przedstawicieli tej dyscypliny sportu. W niedzielę, 14 kwietnia o godz. 15.00 na promenadzie przy kortach tenisowych Klubu Sportowego Nadwiślan tablice z brązu z odciskami dłoni odsłonili: Agnieszka Radwańska, Wojciech Fibak, Magdalena Grzybowska oraz Mariusz Fyrstenberg. Pośmiertnie zostaną odsłonięte tablice Jadwigi Jędrzejowskiej i Ignacego Tłoczyńskiego.

- This project relies heavily on the creation of Tennis Stars Alley which will unveil bronze plaques commemorating the greatest exponents of this sporting discipline. On Sunday, 14th of April, on the promenade alongside the Nadwiślan Sports Club tennis courts, the official Tauron Tennis Star Alley, Kraków was inaugurated. Bronze plaques bearing the palm imprints of Agnieszka Radwańska, Wojciech Fibak, Magdalena Grzybowska and Mariusz Fyrstenberg were unveiled. Plaques commemorating the late Jadwiga Jędrzejowska and Ignacy Tłoczyński will also be unveiled.

W godzinach 10.00–14.30 na kortach KS Nadwiślan rozegrany został turniej tenisa dla dzieci o Puchar Alei Gwiazd Tenisa. W turnieju gośćmi honorowymi były gwiazdy tenisa. Partnerami wydarzenia są Miasto Kraków i Województwo Małopolskie.

- Nadwiślan Sports Club hosted a tennis tournament for children between the hours of 10.00am and 2.30pm with the winners being awarded the Tennis Stars Alley Cup. Honoured Guests attending the tournament by special invitation included current and latter day tennis stars. The initiative is a joint partnership between the City of Kraków and the Małopolskie Province.

To już 7. odcinek "Dancing with the stars. Taniec z gwiazdami"! Tym razem pary zatańczyły po dwa tańce - indywidualne i w pojedynku. Komu poszło najsłabiej? Która para opuściła program? Oto szczegóły!

- We're already in Week 7 of "Dancing with the stars. Taniec z gwiazdami"! This time each couple will dance twice - individually and in a group 'dance off.' Which pair were the weakest? Who left the contest? Here are the results.

- "Dancing with the stars. Taniec z gwiazdami" Series 9 Week 7 - what happened?

Pierwsi na parkiecie pojawili się Jakub Kucner i Lenka Klimentova, którzy zatańczyli ogniste hiszpańskie paso doble. - W tym całym pięknym show ty odegrałeś rolę drugoplanową - oceniła Iwona Pavlović. - Zabrakło mi finezji - dodała. Pierwszy w tym odcinku taniec został oceniony na 22 punkty. Quickstepa w rytm hitu "Despacito" zaprezentowali Mariusz Węgłowski i Kasia Vu Manh. - Według mnie od początku rokowałeś i coraz lepiej rokujesz - powiedział Andrzej Grabowski, który docenił też nieschodzący z twarzy Mariusza uśmiech. Para otrzymała 19 punktów.

- First on the dance floor were Jakub Kucner and Lenka Klimentova who performed a fiery Paso Doble. 'Throughout the dance you played second fiddle to the performance' stated judge Iwona Pavlović - 'I lacked finesse' agreed Lenka Klimentova. The couple received a score of 22 points. Dancing a Quickstep to the hit "Despacito" were Mariusz Węgłowski and Kasia Vu Manh. 'As far as I am concerned you rock and you are still rocking' said judge Andrzej Grabowski, who also valued Mariusz's permagrin. The couple received 19 points for thier efforts.

Agnieszka Radwańska i Stefano Terrazzino zatańczyli tym razem tango do utworu "Whatever It Takes" Imagine Dragons. Jurorzy podkreślili, że w 7. tygodniu trwania programu wymagają znacznie więcej niż na początku. Iwona Pavlović miała za złe Agnieszce nie do końca prawidłową pracę stóp. W sumie Agnieszka i Stefano dostali 22 punkty. Zespół Pectus pojawił się na parkiecie "Tańca z gwiazdami", gdy walca wiedeńskiego tańczyli Gimper i Natalia Głębocka. - Uważam, że robisz duże postępy. Zrelaksuj się. Nawet nie było źle - oceniła Ola Jordan. Jurorzy przyznali 20 punktów.

- Agnieszka Radwańska i Stefano Terrazzino danced the Tango to "Whatever it takes" by 'Imagine Dragons'. The judges pointed out that by Week 7 they were expecting more from a performance than the standard shown in Week 1. Iwona Pavlović criticised Agnieszka's lack of footwork technique. The pair received 22 points. Professional dancers 'Pectus' joined during with Gimper i Natalia Głębocka's Viennese Waltz routine. 'I believe you are making good progress but you need to relax more. It wasn't at all bad' - stated judge Ola Jordan. The couple were awarded 20 points.

Po występach solowych par przyszedł czas na pojedynki. Tamara i Rafał oraz Agnieszka i Stefano zatańczyli sambę. Mariusz i Kasia oraz Joanna i Janek dostali cha-chę, a taniec dla Kuby i Lenkai oraz Gimpera i Natalii to jive. Pojedynki wygrali: Agnieszka i Stefano, Joanna i Jan oraz Jakub i Lenka - tym parom dopisano po 3 punkty do końcowego wyniku. Czas na ogłoszenie decyzji widzów.

- After the solo dances had all been performed and judged, the time came for the group dance off. Tamara and Rafał and Agnieszka and Stefano both performed the Samba, Mariusz and Kasia and Joanna and Janek performed the Cha-cha-cha and Kuba and Lenka performed the Jive. The winners were chosen and Agnieszka and Stefano, Joanna and Jan and Jakub and Lenka proved successful. Each pair had an additional 3 points added to their totals. Then came the decision of the viewers .....

Week 6 - 'A Contemporary (Barefoot) Dance'

Thanks to the Agnieszka Radwańska official Fb Fan Page a still from the Contemporary Routine which scored a maximum 30 points is now available.

No publicity stills of this performance were available when the update was prepared so the image is sourced from Polsats Live programme via Fb - (Agnieszka Radwańska i Stefano Terrazzino w tańcu współczesnym) - Agnieszka Radwańska and Stefano Terrazzino perform a contemporary dance which reminds us of Aga's great successes, although the song states that no-one remembers you after you lose. A peculiar choreography more suited to a gymnastics display - available on You Tube.

Week 5 - 'The Cha-Cha-Cha'

Week 4 - 'The Quickstep'

A bit of comedy added to this routine by Aga and Stefano - maybe to hide the embarrassment of the appallingly designed dress which evokes the quickstep how? There were some quick steps and moves and once again a fast pace.

Week 2 - 'The Waltz'

The 'solo' effect shows off the fairy tale, floaty and very feminine design of the 'frock' chosen for (presumably) a romantic waltz. Aga must have felt she was at her own wedding all over again!

Week 1 - 'The Jive'

I chose the 'Jive' finale as any images available from the dance action showed the complete lack of synchronicity between the two - still it is a fast dance.

Jej występ zrobił duże wrażenie na jurorach, w szczególności na Andrzeju Grabowskim, który nie mógł się jej nachwalić. Agnieszka ma to szczęście, że jej partnerem w tańcu jest Stefano Terrazzino – nieoficjalnie mówi się, że gdy ktoś tańczy ze Stefano, to ma największe szanse na zwycięstwo. Jak się okazało, Agnieszka wie, po co przyszła do programu.

- Agnieszka Radwańska surprised everyone in her first appearance on Season 9 of "Dancing with the Stars." Her performance made a big impact on the judging panel in particular Andrzej Grabowski who couldn't praise her enough. Agnieszka is fortunate that her dance partner is Stefano Terrazzino - unofficially, the word is that if you dance with him, then you have a greater chance of winning. Jej sportowy duch dał o sobie znać, gdy w rozmowie z reporterką Jastrząb Post wyznała, że widzi siebie na podium: Mam nadzieję, że dojdziemy razem daleko. Stefano jest wspaniałym tancerzem i człowiekiem, świetnie uczy, ma cierpliwość, więc mam nadzieję, że faktycznie zajdziemy daleko, ale czas pokaże. Moim celem jest bycie na podium, wiadomo, że jest to program rozrywkowy, ale każdy chce zajść jak najdalej i wytańczyć najlepiej jak potrafi wszystko, czego się na nauczy na sali.

- Her competitive spirit came to the fore during an interview with Jastrząb Post when she revealed that she could see herself on the winners podium: "I hope we'll go deep into the competition together. Stefano is a brilliant dancer and person, he is a very talented instructor, has unlimited patience and everything points to us going deep into the competition, but only time will tell. My goal is to reach the podium even though everyone understands that this is just an entertainment, all of us competing still want to get as far as we can and showcase all the new moves we have been taught during the programme."

Czy Agnieszka na co dzień jest przesądna? Nie jestem przesądna. Talizmanów nigdy nie miałam i nie jestem przesądna. Nie wierzę w takie rzeczy, więc nigdy czegoś takiego nie miałam. Tylko ciężka praca, a jak coś nie idzie to więcej, więcej, więcej. Ćwiczyć od rana do wieczora, żeby tutaj wyszło.

- Is Agnieszka superstitious as a rule? "I'm not superstitious. I never had any Talismans nor held any superstitions. I don't believe in such things, so never wasted time on them. Only hard work and if that didn't work then it needed more, more, more. Training from morning until evening so that the right result was achieved.

Former World No.2 Agnieszka Radwańska retired from professional tennis in November 2018. After a successful on-court career on the pro circuit that lasted for 13 years, the Pole is all set to begin her new off-court venture in dancing.
The winner of six fans' favorite award will be seen in the dance show "Dancing with the Stars." Stefano Terrazzino of Italy is the partner of the former Wimbledon runner-up on the show. The Italian is a four time winner on the show.
"I needed a couple of hours to make that decision. I thought that when, if not now? I love to dance and I had a little chance to do it. For me, this is a good form of movement after my career ends. Now there will be a good training, there will be some adrenaline, so why not? With health getting better, dance training cannot be compared to the ones I had at the court or at the gym. It's quite different from what I had to do to be ready to play in WTA tournaments. I think it's about 30 percent. of what I have done so far."

In a highly generous gesture, Radwańska has decided not to take any payment on the show for herself. The money that she would earn from each of her dance performances would be given in charity to the UNICEF. " I love dancing. Wybitna tenisistka, która niedawno zakończyła sportową karierę, potwierdziła udział w telewizyjnym show w rozmowie z Polsat News. - Nie robię tego ani dla pieniędzy, ani dla sławy. W końcu na to absolutnie nie mogę narzekać. Oczywiście pewnie będą tak mówić i takie będą tytuły, ale absolutnie nie o to chodzi - powiedziała Radwańska. Czemu więc zdecydowała się wziąć udział w polsatowskim show? I z kim zatańczy Isia?

- It's official! Agnieszka Radwańska will participate on "Dancing with the Stars." The outstanding tennis player, who recently ended her sporting career, confirmed her participation in the television show whilst being interviewed for Polsat News. Potrzebowałam kilku tygodni, aby podjąć tę decyzję. Wahałam się bardzo - powiedziała w rozmowie z Dorotą Gawryluk z Polsat News. - Jednak pomyślałam sobie: "kiedy jak nie teraz?". Kocham tańczyć, zawsze to była dla mnie straszna przyjemność, a tych okazji, żeby potańczyć było zawsze bardzo mało. Tak naprawdę to jest dla mnie też świetna forma ruchu. Przez te 25 lat zawodowej kariery zawsze tenis był na pierwszym miejscu. Nie było czasu na nic innego. Teraz po skończeniu kariery ten taniec to będzie świetny trening i ciało jeszcze będzie pracować. Oczywiście będzie też troszkę adrenalinki przy odcinkach live - dodała Agnieszka.

- "I needed a few weeks to make up my mind. I was really undecided" she told interviewer Dorota Gawryluk on Polsat News. "Then I thought, why not now? I love to dance, it's always been a great personal pleasure for me, but the occasions to enjoy such a treat were few and far between. In truth it's an excellent form of movement which suits me well. In my 25 year professional career, tennis always took prime poition. There wasn't time for anything else. Now that I've finished my career, dancing will be the ideal training opportunity and my body will still respond. Not to mention that there will still be an adrenalin rush especially when doing a live performance" added Agnieszka.

- Radwańska maintains that she isn't doing this for the money and comes over as completely sincere and believable. What then prompted her to agree to take part?

Kuszenie nie jest tutaj dobrym słowem. To była po prostu moja decyzja. Albo coś chcę, albo czegoś nie chcę. Oglądałam ten program jak tylko byłam w Polsce, a taniec zawsze bardzo pozytywnie się kojarzy. Tak naprawdę to jedyny program, w którym mogłabym wziąć udział. Nic innego nie wchodziło w grę. Mam nadzieję, że kilka odcinków zatańczę, oby do końca. Jeżeli już się do czegoś zobowiązuję, to zawsze na sto procent. Jeżeli trzeba będzie, to do późnych godzin nocnych będziemy ćwiczyć na sali, żeby było jak najlepiej. A o kondycję też nie muszę się martwić - dodała z uśmiechem Isia, która na korcie zawsze imponowała niesamowitą wydolnością, szybkością i zwinnością.

- "Temptation isn't a good description to use in this instance, It was, quite simply, my decision. I either want to do something or I don't. I always watched the programme when I was in Poland and dance always comes over as very positive. In truth, it would be the only programme which suited me sufficielthy for me to participate in. Nothing else comes to mind as suitable. I hope I'll get to dance in a few episodes, possibly even to the final. Whenever I commit to anything it's always to perform to 100% capability. If necessary, then we'll practise on the dance floor late into the night to achieve maximum advantage. As to my conditioning, I don't think I need to worry too much" added a smiling Isia, who, when on court, throughout her career, always impressed with an incredible efficiency, speed and agility.

Krakowianka po 13 latach zawodowej gry i wygranych 20 oficjalnych turniejach WTA zdecydowała w listopadzie o zakończeniu sportowej kariery ze względów zdrowotnych. W poniedziałkowym wywiadzie telewizyjnym zdecydowała się na poruszające wyznanie, dotyczące swoich odczuć tuż po podjęciu tego niezwykle trudnego dla niej kroku. - Czułam się jakbym umarła, jakby tenis umarł w Polsce. Później to przeszło. Moja sytuacja zdrowotna teraz jest coraz lepsza. Treningów tanecznych nie da się porównywać z tenisowymi. To pewnie jakieś 30 procent tego, co robiłam na korcie - podkreśliła Agnieszka Radwańska.

- On Monday Agnieszka Radwańska participated in an interview with Polsat News. During a lengthy chat, Isia officially confirmed that she would be participating in "Dancing with the Stars". She couldn't however, ignore the topic of tennis. After 13 years as a professional player and winner of 20 WTA titles, the girl from Kraków decided, last November, that she was unable to compete professionally any further as a result of health issues. On Monday, during the televised interview, visibly emotional, she decided to share how she felt having been forced into making this extraordinarily difficult, for her, decision. "I felt as if I'd died, as if tennis had died in Poland. Then that feeling passed, Now I'm feeling better. It's not possible to compare the training that goes into dancing against training to compete in tennis. It's around 30% of the effort I had to put in on court" stressed Agnieszka Radwańska.

At the same time the 29 year old wants to do whatever she can to promote and make the game popular amongst the upcoming generation of potential players. "I'd like this sport to become more popular in Poland. I'd like to see more Polish name in the Grand Slam Roll Calls and I'll do everything in my power to make this happen" promised Agnieszka Radwańska. She has also stated that she may become a commentator during matches to assist in the process and which would be welcomed by her existing fans."Nobody understands the sport as much as someone who has been at the top of the profession" explained Isia. - It is still unknown what plans the girl from Kraków has made. Not that she is lacking in iffers, The Minister of Sport and Tourism Witold Bańk has already announced that he would like to take advantage of her knowledge and popularity and put it to good use in promoting Polish Tennis.

W rozmowie z "Przeglądem Sportowym" Radwańska przekonuje, że na razie chce dojść do pełni zdrowia i na tym się skupia. Zapowiada jednak, że na pewno nie usiedzi w jednym miejscu.

- Interviewed by "Przegląd Sportowy" (Sports Review) Radwańska reiterates that she won't make any decisions until she returns to full health. However, she insists that whe won't be sitting still in one place.

W jednym miejscu na pewno nie usiedzę, przede mną nowe wyzwania - mówi była wiceliderka rankingu WTA.

- Absolutely I won't be sitting still and in once place, says the former WTA no. 2, there's a lot waiting for me out there.

Przy projektach popularyzujących tenis zawsze się chętnie zaangażuję. Być może zobaczę, jak się komentuje turnieje w telewizji. Dawidowi, mojemu mężowi, pracy oczywiście nie zabiorę. On się w tym dobrze czuje, jest profesjonalistą, ja ewentualnie mogłabym spróbować bardziej na zasadzie eksperymentu - ujawnia. Gdyby tak się stało, poszłaby ona drogą byłych polskich tenisistek, m.in. Katarzyny Nowak i Joanny Sakowicz-Kosteckiej, które obecnie są ekspertkami telewizyjnymi.

- I'll always support any projects that will promote and popularise tennis. I might even have a go at commentating on some televised tennis. However, I won't be taking work away from my husband, Dawid. He is comfortable and very professional in his career, I might consider, at a later date to experiment with some commentary she admits. If the opportunity arose then she would follow the path taken by other former Polish Tennis players, Katarzyna Nowak and Joanne Sakowicz-Kostecka, both of whom are currently being trialled on television.

Na łamach "PS" Radwańska potwierdziła również to, co powiedziała kilka dni wcześniej na antenie Polskiego Radia, że jej organizm nie jest obecnie gotowy do gry w tenisa na żadnym poziomie. - Po 20 minutach ostatniego treningu myślałam, że zejdę. Potem nie miałam ręki, nie mogłam się nawet przywitać. Dzień później trzęsłam się jak galareta, byłam w szoku, że tak zareagował mój organizm na coś, co przez lata nie sprawiało mi problemów - przekonuje.

- As a PS Radwańska reiterated what she had stated a few days earlier in a 'Radio Poland' interview, that her general well-being is still not sufficient for her to be able to attempt playing tennis at any level. After attempting her last training session she thought she would collapse after a strenous 20 minutes. I couldn't feel my arm, not even to shake hands in greeting. The next day I trembled like a jelly, I was in shock that my body had reacted in such a violent way to a routine that had become second nature over the years.

Agnieszka Radwańska nie ma jeszcze sprecyzowanych planów po zakończeniu tenisowej kariery. Potwierdza jednak, że dostała propozycję m.in. od Ministerstwa Sportu i Turystyki.

- Agnieszka Radwańska doesn't currently have any specific plans to follow her abruptly terminated tennis career. She has, however divulged that she has received an offer from the Ministry of Sports and Tourism.

Są pomysły na większe przedsięwzięcia, przede wszystkim promowanie tenisa. Jeszcze za wcześnie mówić o szczegółach, ale mam nadzieję, że coś z tego wypali, bo nie po to reanimowaliśmy polski tenis, żeby znowu miał umierać. Jak na stare lata pojadę na truskawki na Wimbledon, to niech przy okazji zobaczę grających tam Polaków - mówi Agnieszka Radwańska w rozmowie z Arturem St. Rolakiem z "Rzeczpospolitej", gdy została zapytana o to, czy dostała oferty od Polskiego Związku Tenisowego oraz Ministerstwa Sportu i Turystyki.

- There are plans for greater ventures especially the promoting of Polish tennis. 'It's too early to discuss any specific details but I have hopes that something will come of the projects suggested as it would be a great waste of the newly invigorated interest in tennis to die again. When, in my old age, I go back to Wimbledon to taste the strawberries I hope that I'll be able to view some good tennis matches featuring Polish platers.' said Agnieszka Radwańska in an interview with Arthur St. Rolak from "Rzeczpospolita", when asked if she had been made offers from the Polish Tennis Association or Ministry of Sports and Tourism.

29-latka planuje odpoczywać teraz przez kilka miesięcy. Przyznaje, że tenis bardzo ją zmęczył fizycznie i ostatnio pierwszy raz od prawie trzech miesięcy pojawiła się na korcie. Po 40-minutowej grze na drugi dzień miała olbrzymie kłopoty. - Nie mogę dotknąć ręki. Grałam przez 40 minut, chociaż chciałam zejść z kortu już po kilkunastu. Bolały mnie wszystkie stawy, a nadgarstek był tak usztywniony, że nie mogłam ruszyć ręką. O bąblach czy krwiakach nie ma co opowiadać, bo się ich spodziewałam - powiedziała.

- The 29-year old is planning to rest in the forseeable future. She admits that tennis has exhausted her physically and that her last appearance on court followed a three-month hiatus. After 40 minutes of play on the second day she encountered severe issues. 'I couldn't bear to touch my hand. I played for 40 minutes although I wanted to stop after just a few minutes. All my joints ached and my wrist was so stiff I wasn't able to move my hand. I'm not talking about blisters or blood blisters as they are the normal expected course of events.' she said.

Radwańska przyznaje, że z myślami o końcu kariery biła się przez cały sezon. Mówi o "bardzo trudnym roku" i dodaje, że poprzedni również "nie był cudowny". Wspomina, że musiała odpuszczać turnieje, ponieważ zdrowie nie pozwalało jej pojawiać się na korcie. Coraz trudniej jej się startowało, a konkurencja w kobiecym tenisie jest coraz większa. Jej zdaniem kiedyś tenis był "bardziej finezyjny", a teraz liczy się siła.

- Radwańska admitted that she had been thinking of ending her career throughout the current season. She talks of a 'very difficult year' and adds that the preceding season 'wasn't all that great either.' She remembers having to withdraw from tournaments because her health would not stand for her appearing on court. Getting started was getting ever more difficult and the competition was becoming stronger and greater numbers were competing at a high level. She remembers when tennis was more 'finessed' and how now it is brute strength that counts.

With most players, even legendary players, I struggle to remember the first time I saw them in action. That's not the case with Agnieszka Radwańska, the former world No. 2 and Wimbledon finalist who retired from tennis on Wednesday at age 29.

My first sighting of this cagey Krakow native is etched vividly in my mind. In the fall of 2005 or 2006, Tennis Channel was broadcasting a small indoor tournament from Europe. This wasn't the type of event that would normally leave me glued to the TV, but there was something about the teenager who was on my screen that day. More specifically, there something about the way she hit the ball. Radwańska, who had a fuller face and curlier hair in those early days, didn't look or play like any of the WTA's stars of that moment. She wasn't a towering ball basher bent on intimidation, like her more famous fellow teen Maria Sharapova. She wasn't a whirling athletic dynamo in the mode of the world No. 1 back then, Justine Henin. She didn't even have especially elegant strokes, the kind that normally catch the eye. Hers were short slaps rather than long sweeps, and she made a lot of them from a painful-looking crouched position, like a hockey goalie. But none of that mattered, because with this kid, it wasn't about how she hit the ball; it was about all the different things she could make it do, and all the different places she could make it go. The swing was simple, but the contact was precise, and the result was almost always a surprise.

So I kept watching, and found that her demeanor was just as surprising, and appealing, as her game. For the most part, Radwańska walked calmly from one point to the next; her nickname, Ninja, came later, but she already had a knack for carving her opponents up with quiet élan. When Radwańska did get mad, her way of expressing it was just as unassuming, and just as unique. After missing a shot, she would wrinkle her nose and stamp her foot. Then she would move onto the next point, and onto her next silently vicious piece of racquet work. I learned soon after that Radwańska had won the Wimbledon juniors in 2005 and the French Open juniors in 2006. Agnieszka and her younger sister, Urszula (Aga and Ula for short), were coached by their father, Robert, and they were pioneers of Polish tennis; in 2007, Aga would become the first woman from Poland to win a WTA event. As kids, Robert had Aga and Ula practice with balloons, which helped explain the velvet touch she could impart on a tennis ball. Still, back then it was difficult to believe that Aga could thrive at the pro level. She weighed 125 pounds, and had the 75-m.p.h second serve to match. Her way of playing, which relied on consistency and creativity, seemed to have gone out of style with Martina Hingis. Radwańska appeared destined to be a cult player, an aficionados' favorite, a side-court secret. So I did what any cultist lucky enough to go to tournaments would do: I trekked out to those side courts to watch her play. From there, it was easy to see how much athleticism and raw physical effort went into her game. Aga may have made it look easy on TV, but it was hard, scrambling work in reality.

It was also easy to see that Radwańska wasn't going to remain a secret for long. She had an uncanny knack for controlling rallies without needing to overpower opponents, and she quickly rose in the rankings: From No. 57 to No. 26 and into the Top 10 by 2008, which is where she mostly stayed until 2017. Once there, Radwańska's cult grew to include just about everyone who liked tennis. She won the WTA Fan Favorite Award each year from 2011 to 2016, and the Shot of the Year Award each year from 2013 to 2017.

That's what she was known for: shots. There were the drop shots that she flipped crosscourt while running in the other direction. There were the volley-lobs that she turned from a circus shot into a reliable weapon. There were the short-angle volley winners carved within an inch of the net, and the no-look winners she hit while spinning around and plucking the ball out of thin air. There was the fake drop shot that she shoveled into the corner instead, and there was the squat shot that she hit from a near-sitting position. No player came up with as many ways to make fans shake their heads and laugh. Radwańska herself developed a suitably unassuming celebration after these hot shots: She laughed, raised her racquet above her head, and walked back to play the next point. Radwańska carried that laugh with her off court, too. One year I was scheduled to interview her at Indian Wells; when she went down to a brutally quick defeat, I expected our chat to be canceled. Instead, she greeted me with a sleepy, sheepish smile and seemed happy to talk. Radwańska was an artist, but she was also a road warrior, and there was always another tournament for her. She had friends on tour, like Caroline Woźniacki and Angelique Kerber, who attended her wedding last year. But she also wasn't afraid to criticize fellow players, like Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka, when she thought it was warranted.

Her career reached its peak, and its limit, at Wimbledon in 2012 and 2013. The first year, she made the final and lost to Serena Williams in three sets; that month she also ascended to a career-high ranking of No. 2. But it was at Wimbledon in 2013 that she had her best chance at a major title, and when she suffered her most bitter defeat. Most of the top seeds, including Serena, went out early that year. Radwańska survived the carnage, and a series of three-set matches, to reach the semifinals. There she faced Sabine Lisicki, a player she had beaten easily in their most recent match. Waiting in the final would be Marion Bartoli, a player who Aga had beaten in all seven of their previous meetings. When Radwańska went up a break in the third set against Lisicki, she must have felt as if the Wimbledon title was hers. But she couldn't hold the lead, and she couldn't bring herself to look Lisicki in the eye when she (briefly) shook her hand afterward. Radwańska would win 20 WTA titles, including the season-ending championship in 2015. But while other players have continued to thrive into their 30s, she knew she had gone as far as she could at 29.

"Unfortunately, I am no longer able to train and play the way I used to," she wrote in her retirement announcement, "and recently my body can't live up to my expectations...[I] have to concede that I'm not able to push my body to the limits required." Radwańska won't be remembered as an all-time champion, and she probably won't make the Hall of Fame. She'll be remembered instead as one of those idiosyncratic talents who make the sport richer and more surprising; there haven't been many players, man or woman, who could crack us up with their creativity the way she could. - The Polish Tennis Association has plans for Agnieszka Radwańska. The most successful ever Polish female tennis player may exchange her racket for a comfortable armchair upon taking up the position of director.

W środę Agnieszka Radwańska ogłosiła zakończenie zawodowej kariery. Ta obfitowała w mnóstwo sukcesów. 29-letnia tenisistka wygrała 20 zawodów głównego cyklu. Krakowianka była wiceliderką rankingu WTA. Do jej największych sukcesów zaliczany jest triumf w Mistrzostwach WTA 2015 oraz finał Wimbledonu 2012.

- On Wednesday, Agnieszka Radwańska announced her intention to quit her professional career as a tennis player which had been filled with numerous successes. The 29-year-old had one 20 major titles on the circuit. The girl from Kraków had reached the heights of No. 2 in the WTA rankings. Her greatest triumphs came in the form of winning the WTA Year End Final in 2015 and reaching the final of Wimbledon in 2012.

Polski Związek Tenisowy chce godnie pożegnać Radwańską. Jak informuje "Przegląd Sportowy", może stać się to na początku lutego, gdy w hali Centrum Rekreacyjno-Sportowego w Zielonej Górze odbędzie się turniej Grupy I Strefy Euroafrykańskiej Pucharu Federacji. Radwańska, na koszt związku, miałaby zaprosić swoich gości, a wszystko oglądałoby kilka tysięcy fanów.

- The Polish Tennis Association wishes to bid farewell to Radwańska in an approriate manner. "Przegląd Sportowy" has announced that this may be announced as early as the beginning of February during the Federation Cups Group 1 Euro-Africa tournament which is being held at the Recreational Sports Centre in Zielona Góra. Radwańska would be offered an all-expenses paid visit to the tournament which would be supported and watched by several thousand fans.

Decyzja w tej sprawie ma zapaść na początku grudnia. - Takiej imprezy tenisowej w Polsce już dawno nie było. Na trybunach kortu centralnego w hali CRS zasiądzie siedem tysięcy widzów, będą też świetne zawodniczki z innych krajów, które przyjadą na zawody. Myślę, że to dobra okazja na pożegnanie - mówi w rozmowie z "Przeglądem Sportowym" Mirosław Skrzypczyński.

- A decision, concerning this invitation, is likely to be made at the beginning of December. 'An event of this magnitude has not been seen in Poland for a very long time. The main stadium at the Recreational Sports Centre in Zielona Góra is capable of seating 7,000 fans and will host many excellent competitors from other countries who will be taking part in the contest. I think this would be a good time for an official farewell said Mirosław Skrzypczyński in a interview for "Przegląd Sportowy."

Prezes Polskiego Związku Tenisowego ma też plan na dalszą współpracę z Radwańską. Krakowianka może zająć stanowisko dyrektorskie w organizowanych przez związek rozgrywkach. W ich ramach w przyszłym roku mają odbyć się dwa turnieje zawodowe dla kobiet. W dalszej perspektywie rozgrywki mają znaleźć się z kolei w głównym cyklu WTA.

- The President of the Polish Tennis Association has also made plans to form a partnership with Radwańska. She may be offered a directorship in competitions organised by the association. Next year the PTA has been given responsibility for staging to major professional tennis tournaments for women. If successful the torurnaments may then become a regular feature of the WTA.

Chciałbym, aby w tym projekcie uczestniczyła Agnieszka Radwańska jako dyrektor honorowy. Wyraziła już nawet wstępne zainteresowanie, ale decyzja należy do niej. Ma prawo do długiego odpoczynku - podkreśla Skrzypczyński.

- "I would really appreciate it if Agnieszka Radwańska would accept the honorary position of director and participate in these projects. She has already tentatively expressed an interest but the final decision will be hers. She has every right to a deserved long rest" added Skrzypczyński.

Przypomnijmy, że głównym powodem decyzji Radwańskiej o zakończeniu kariery były problemy zdrowotne. - Niestety nie mogłam już trenować jak dawniej, a organizm i tak coraz częściej odmawiał posłuszeństwa. W trosce o swoje zdrowie, z pełną świadomością obciążenia, jakie niesie rywalizacja na tak wysokim poziomie, nie jestem już w stanie zmobilizować swojego organizmu do jeszcze większej eksploatacji - tłumaczyła Radwańska w swoim oświadczeniu.

- We would just like to remind everyone that the main cause for Radwańskas' decision to end her career was as a result of health problems. 'Regreattably I found I was no longer able to train as I used to and my body wilfully refused to respond. Fearing for my well-being, and being cogniscant of the strength of the rivals who had achieved the same level of play as I had, I knew that I would not be able to exploit my talents to match theirs competitively.' explained Radwańska on making her statement.
